The Carnival action dies down at both Rosehill and Flemington this Saturday but there is still some quality racing across the board, and there are five winners to be found.

Here are my five suggested plays across the meetings.

Bet One – Win – Rosehill Race One Number 2 Roosevelt
$4 was the opening price for this. Took $3 and I think he should start odds-on. Looks one of two good things at Rosehill. James Cummings trains this colt, who looks well above average after debuting with a win at the Warwick Farm midweeks when doing plenty wrong but proving far too good for his rivals.

Was due to run in the Pago Pago but bypassed, trialled up beautifully a couple of weeks back. Very keen.

Bet Two – Win – Rosehill Race Six Number 7 Nettoyer
Yet to win this prep, which is the negative, but if you look at each of her runs, I think she’s been fabulous and she gets her chance here. It’s been one of the best preps you’ll see from a horse without winning when you go through her runs. She’s flying but just hasn’t had the breaks go her way in order to win.

Produced great late splits last time out in the JRA Plate but the bludger himself Tally decided to turn up and put in his best showing. 2000m, Rosehill, hopefully, that little bit of moisture in the track, she’ll do me.

Bet Three – Win – Flemington Race Two Number 3 Doukhan
Runs up to his Sydney Cup run, he’ll be beating these. Excellent against the bias in the Chairmans behind Sir Charles Road before going to the Sydney Cup and you could make a case that he would have gone close to winning had the gap not closed on him when about to burst through.

Runs up to that, he wins and I think the $5 is a steal.

Bet Four – Win – Flemington Race Five Number 2 Malibu Style
If he can’t win this, he may as well head back to Perth and retire. Yet to greet the judge in Melbourne due to Steve Parnham steering IMHO but as soon as he came off, bang, he improved out of sight in the Bel Esprit when closing up behind Sprightly Lass.

Draws to track the speed and have last say. Keen on him here.

Bet Five – Each Way – Flemington Race Nine Number 13 Moana Jewel
$20 was simply crazy odds for this horse. Probably over corrected now at $8-$9 but gee I think she’ll take some beating.

Resumed with a tough on speed win at Pakenham before racing at Sandown a couple of Wednesdays back and you could make a very good case that she should have beaten the above average Platinum Angel but just had no luck. Should eat up the 1400m and will prove hard to beat.
