Hamilton is where Victorian racing takes place today, with a wet track on the cards, so expect them to come towards the outside fence early on. Here are my five plays for the meeting.

Bet One: Win, Race Two, Number 2 Erector
Bursting to win a race and with the drop in depth to these Highweight races, he’s the one. Really good run last time out at Casterton when a close up second to Emil. There’s no horse of that quality here so quite keen on his chances.

Bet Two: Win, Race Four, Number 8 Lady Mahala
She’s ready to go first up. Symon Wilde trains this mare, who was well backed in early markets when down to resume during the Warrnambool Carnival but was scratched. Finds a thin race and with Meech on, she will take some beating.

Bet Three: Win, Race Five, Number 5 Chakeela
Not the most reliable horse going around but I think she’s the one to beat here. Has been disappointing at her last couple but admittedly they have been in much stronger races than this. Handles a wet track so I’ll give her another chance.

Bet Four: Each Way, Race Six, Number 3 Aldo’s Gold
Could be worth something each way. Had an eye-catching run two back at Naracoorte before going to Mildura last week where the track was just too firm for him. Gets a track with give in it this time, like Naracoorte, and I think he can run a positive race.

Bet Five: Each Way, Race Seven, Number 8 Keighran
If he gets a clean jump he just about wins this one. Slow to begin when resuming at Geelong but worked home strongly late in the piece when second to Kartem Around Boy. Up to 1400m second up looks ideal.
