While the main focus will be on Doomben, there is still some good cards of racing set down for Randwick and Flemington. Here are my five plays across the programs.

Bet One – Win – Randwick Race Five Number 4 I Am Serious
Bet of the day if she handles the back up. Her run last Saturday over 1500m at Rosehill was unbelievable.

Had no right to get as close as she did given the tempo and how far back she was, but she got very close to nabbing Volpe.

If she has recovered from that, she’ll just about be winning up to the Randwick mile. $3+ is overs.

Bet Two – Win – Randwick Race Six Number 5 Hemmerle
Tricky three-year-old race, but quite keen on this one. Loved his effort in the Highway at Rosehill last Saturday.

Radiant Choice controlled things beautifully from the front and had it won a fair way out, but Hemmerle really closed off well.

Being sired by Lucas Cranach, up to 2000m looks perfect and there should be a good speed.

Bet Three – Win – Flemington Race One Number 10 Propelle
Handy little juvenile race but I like this girl.

The Ellerton/Zahra stable have this well bred filly, who was excellent on debut at Geelong before racing at Sale last Wednsday where Lane sent her to the front, controlled things beautifully and kicked strongly under pretty light riding I thought to win well, and the time compared very well relative to the meeting.

Trained here and draws to get clear air.

Bet Four – Each Way – Flemington Race Two Number 5 Falago
$8+ each way looks a great play for mine. Comes through the Lycurgus race at Sandown two weeks ago.

He was ridden a bit upside down on speed but despite that, he toughed it out very well I thought in defeat to be beaten a couple of lengths.

Proven track/distance performer and with a more conservative steer, he’ll be more effective.

Bet Five – Win – Flemington Race Six Number 14 Mantastic
I think this horse might be pretty good so I’ll take a chance. Former French galloper who makes his Australian debut for the Darren Weir team.

His French form, subsequent form, has been outstanding and to my eye, his Werribee trial was very good.

Given a good hit out, looked to move nicely and was eased down the final 50m while still hitting the line.
