The best of the best will be on show this Saturday at Randwick, namely the return of superstar mare Winx in the race named in her honour, the Group L Winx Stakes (1400m). Here are my five plays across the meeting.

Bet one: Each way – Race One – number two, Evopex
I think he’ll ease to an each price and if so, he’s a good bet to run top three. He had a brilliant win two back over 1400m at Coffs Harbour before racing over the mile there on Cup Day and was aided by a 12/10 from McGuren.

The five-year-old dashed and won well. Got plenty of room for improvement for mine. The one to beat. I think he’ll get to $6+.

Bet two: Each way – Race Two – number nine, Screamarr
This is a real tough staying race to sort out so I think he can run a decent race at odds. These horses generally take their turn at winning these races and he should get his chance.

He ran over 2000m at Rosehill three weeks back where he finished off quite well in restricted room to run third to impressive winner Raqeeq. He remains down in the weights and he’s racing as if 2400m will be ideal and double figures are more than acceptable.

Bet three: Win – Race Three – number eight, Almanzora
This race looks to be one one of two good things across Australia for Saturday. The punters were quite keen on her when she resumed at the Canterbury midweeks and was just an utter nightmare to watch.

Back to last, badly held up and never really clear until it was all over. Should have won. She can bounce back here, hopefully with better luck in running. Anything over black figures is fine.

Bet four: Win – Race Seven – number one, Le Romain
If his fitness levels are anywhere near right, he just wins on class alone.

He is the best horse in the race by an absolute mile and has fab stats at Randwick, 1200m and the Randwick 1200m.

The horse hasn’t raced since the Kingsford Smith Cup when running a narrow second to Impending in a thrilling finish. There have been two trials leading in have been great – and he just has class on these.

Bet five: Win – Race Nine – number nine, Shogun Sun
Hoping for $5 to have a bet on him to win. His win a fortnight back at Doomben was outstanding given those on speed were seriously advantaged and the low flying Natch was in front but he wore that horse down for a fab win.

He had the run of the race from the gate and I think he only runs just well. He’ll look the winner at some stage.
