There are three race meetings set down for Monday, and I think there are a couple of good things runnings. Here are my five plays for the afternoon.

Bet 1: Win – Grafton Race 1, number two: The Eulo Queen
When the first markets went up I thought she was a bit thin, but when you screw down the race and see the depth – or lack thereof – she looks a moral. I just found Foxy’s Foxinator too good here during the carnival two weeks ago before getting a very easy kill at Ballina. With three weeks between runs and blinkers on, plus Fuji sticks, she’s very likeable.

Win odds: $2.05 (BetEasy)

Bet 2: Win – Grafton Race 6, number eight: Nothingforthepress
I like him, but he’s well found in early markets, so I think he’ll ease come race time. He resumed over 1200 metres at Doomben in what looked a decent Class 3. He attempted to lead all the way but just tired late behind Happy Hooves in a race where the form has been franked. He has a great record here and I’d love to see Orman take a sit.

Win bet: Tote

Bet 4: Each-way – Gunnedah Race 6, number four: Gadfly
He looks extremely hard to beat. He ran in the Bengalla Cup at the Brook last start, where he got a mile out of his ground, but when he got clear he finished off quite well late to run a close up fifth. He can sit much closer from the good draw, and if he does take advantage of the inside gate, he’s clearly the horse to beat.

Each-way bet: Tote

Bet 4: Win – Swan Hill Race 3, number 12: Masterbrax
I’m surprised there is nearly $3 on offer, because I think he deserves to be odds-on favourite. He comes through an 1100-metre maiden at Geelong where he worked to the line well enough behind an impressive winner in More Sundays, a horse being talked up as a Guineas contender. This drops big time in depth and I think he draws the right part of the track. Only bad luck can beat him.

Win odds: $2.80 (Sportsbet)

Bet 5: Each-way – Swan Hill Race 8, number eight: Liberty’s Gift
I’ve always been a fan of this mare for Dan McCarthy but consistency has been her issue. She’s been starting to regather that in recent times, though. She came third in her latest run at the Mildura Carnival to Another Bender, her first go at the trip. She should come right on from that, and she was pretty slick in her debut win at this track.

Win odds: $8; place odds: $2.70 (Tote)

All odds correct at the time of writing.
