Three meetings have been set down for Monday, with the feature meeting being Coonabarabran Cup Day. Here are my five plays for the afternoon.

Bet One: Each way, Coonabarabran Race Five, Number 9 Humboldt
I think the bookies have missed Humboldt here. Mack Griffith has this horse going really well since being transferred from Godolphin. Impressive maiden winner two back at Hawkesbury before going to Muswellbrook where he just got too far back off the pace but worked home well late. Up to 1200m looks perfect. Hopefully can take advantage of the draw.

Bet: $40 E/W at $9/$3 (BetEasy)

Bet Two: Win, Coonabarabran Race Seven, Number 3 Schedule
It could be a fat day for Mack Griffith with a leading chance here in the Cup. He ran on Port Macquarie Cup Day over 1500m where he was under hard riding a fair way out but kept finding under Adkins to prove too good. Like him third up at the mile and he could easily roll forward from the wide gate. Think he’s okay odds at around $6.

Bet: $20 Win at $6 (BetEasy)

Bet Three: Win, Coffs Harbour Race One, Number 2 Like A Ruler
Like A Ruler looks a good bet to start the afternoon. Danny Bougoure trains this six-year-old, who ran over 1400m at this track last time out and was an excellent run in defeat when third to the above-average Waruna. Like him up to 1500m and the depth here doesn’t appear overly strong. He can get the job done.

Bet: $70 Win (Tote)

Bet Four: Win, Coffs Harbour Race Two, Number 2 Gripped
Clearly the best of the day. His effort at Tamworth was enormous last start. Missed the start, was out the back and had to make a run from the 600m on a day where those on speed were advantaged. Thought he did a great job to get within a length of them. First run in three weeks so he has room to improve and back on his home track, I’m quite keen.

Bet: $100 Win (Tote)

Bet Five: Each way, Coffs Harbour Race Seven, Number 6 Trent
A Throw at the stumps in the last. This bloke certainly has the talent to win but just hasn’t shown a great deal in two runs back from a break, the latest being at Port Macquarie behind Maui Princess in a race which had far more depth than what he faces here. Has a good third up record and gets the blinkers back on. Potential sharp improver.

Bet: $15 E/W (Tote)

Total Spend: $300
