The spring racing season is reaching its climax, with the Cox Plate being run on Saturday, October 27. This is The Roar‘s guide to live streaming the race online or watching it on TV.

Held at The Valley racecourse in Melbourne’s Moonee Ponds, the Cox Plate’s $5 million purse makes it the richest weight-for-age race in the country.

It’s one of the last Melbourne Cup ballot exemption races on the calendar but, in recent years, has become synonymous with the pursuits of undefeated wonder-horse Winx.

The seven-year-old has claimed victory at the Cox Plate for three straight years, and is the white-hot favourite to do again this weekend.

How to watch the race on TV

There are two options available if you want to watch the match on TV.

As is normal, Channel Seven is the free-to-air option for anyone watching Group 1 races on Australia TV.

Like previous weekends, their coverage of Saturday’s races will commence at 12pm (AEDT), and will conclude at 5:30pm.

While their coverage will see them take a look at an array of racing action across the country, Winx will no doubt be front and centre when her race begins at 5pm.

You can also catch Moonee Valley action on Sky Racing, who will have racing coverage on all three of their channels (526, 527 and 528) from 8am (AEDT).

The Cox Plate will, naturally, be on Sky Racing 1 (526).

To catch Sky Racing’s coverage, you will need a valid Foxtel TV subscription with the sports package included.

How to live stream the race online

If you’d rather live stream the Cox Plate, you’re better off using one of the streaming services provided by the TV networks.

Sky Racing’s coverage can be viewed on either the Foxtel App (for customers who already have a Foxtel TV subsciption), or Foxtel Now (which you can subscribe to if you want to receive Foxtel content but don’t want the TV service).

Given some form of subscription is required for both of those services, you’ll need to use Channel Seven’s streaming application; 7plus, if you’re after a free stream.

While many betting websites and apps offer horse racing live streams, you will almost always need to have placed a bet on the race to do so.

Here at The Roar, we will have the Caulfield Cup covered with a live blog and highlights.
