The Brisbane summer carnival continues this Saturday at Doomben, where it’s George Moore Stakes Day. Here are my five plays across the meeting.

Bet 1: Each-way – Race 1, No.3: Unlikely Story
This son of Star Witness for the Tony Gollan stable was a hard favourite when racing at the Ipswich midweeks last time, and despite really being 100 per cent happy around the tight track, he was far too good. Last time he ran here he was two lengths off Winter Bride. That form reads well for this. Odds of around $5 are reasonable to find out.

Bet 2: Win – Race 2, No.3: Estikhraaj
He’s not the strongest of staying races going around, but he seems to be quite reliable. A lovely ride got him the win two back here before a not-so-good ride cost him dearly a fortnight ago when beaten narrowly by Stanley. He seems to be really enjoying life in the sunshine state and this race doesn’t look much harder.

Bet 3: Win – Race 5, No.1: Eleven Eleven
There are a few unknowns here, but based on the trials in Sydney this bloke looks pretty good. He has had two trials in Sydney leading up to his first start, the latest coming a couple of weeks ago at Canterbury, where he led all the way and bolted in under a hold from Jimmy Orman. He has gate speed, so he should be near the front and proving a tough commodity.

Bet 4: Each-way – Race 6, No.2: The Fire Trap
He’ll only run well and could knock off the hot pot. He was a horse I had earmarked as a possible spring horse, but they’ve kept him on ice for the summer. He trialled last week at Doomben and the first half of the trial was ugly, but once he balanced up he moved really nicely. If the favourite is off his game, this is the horse to win. He’s my early pick for the Magic Millions Guineas.

Bet 5: Win – Race 8, No.6: Victorem
I’m happy to give him another chance. He, like several here, came through the Keith Noud from a fortnight ago, and you could make a case he should have won. He just didn’t get the clearest of paths, but when he was clear he savaged the line and just missed out on picking up Most Important. He’s the horse to beat from that form reference leading into here.
