Update: Lys Gracieux won the 2019 Cox Plate in a dominant performance. Castelvecchio looked a chance at the top of the straight and Te Akau Shark ran on well for third.

One of Australia’s biggest races, the Cox Plate, will demand the eyes of the racing world on Saturday as $5 million in prize money goes on the line for the famous race. This is The Roar’s guide to live streaming the race online, or watching it on TV.

The Cox Plate is set to get underway as the ninth race of Saturday’s events at the Moonee Valley Racecourse, giving it a starting time of 4:55pm (AEDT).

The race, which has been dominated by the champion mare Winx for the last five years, will have a new winner in 2019 following the retirement of one of the greatest of all time.

While $5 million in prize money is on the line during the 2040-metre race, it’s also used as a major lead-up to the Melbourne Cup, with the winner securing a ballot exemption spot to Australia’s biggest race.

That, of course, hasn’t been used during the tenure of Winx, but there is a fair chance it might be this year, with plenty of horses still on the Melbourne Cup acceptance list in the field.
