One of the biggest days on Australia’s racing calendar reaches its headline race in the mid afternoon, as a field of 16 horses line up for the 2500 metre Victoria Derby around the Flemington Racecourse. The race, to be held on Saturday, November 2, is set to get underway at 3:45pm (AEDT).

While this race, unlike the Lexus Stakes held earlier in the day, doesn’t have any significance on the Melbourne Cup field, it is a Group 1 run with $2,000,000 on the line, playing a big part on the opening day of the Melbourne Cup carnival.

Many top stayers have won this race over the years and gone on to big things, so the field, which is a set weight one rather than weight for age, will again be looking to use this race to breakout on the Group 1 stage.

Extra Brut and Ace High are the last two winners of the race, however, neither horse is lining up in this year’s field.

Both Channel Ten and Racing.com will also have dedicated coverage on their broadcast of all the day’s happenings at Flemington, while Sky Racing, in its role as Australia’s racing channel, will jump right around Australia and New Zealand to other tracks and races throughout the day, meaning its coverage of the Victoria Derby may end up being nothing more than the live race.

That means Kayo Sports (through the Racing.com coverage, which is now affiliated with Kayo Sports), and TenPlay will live stream the race online.

You’ll also be able to follow the Derby live here on The Roar from 3:30pm (AEDT) on Saturday with our live updates, and highlights as soon as the race is concluded.
