Mer De Glace and Constantinople are into 2019 Melbourne Cup favouritism after drawing barriers 2 and 7 respectively in this year’s Melbourne Cup barrier draw.

Mer De Glace will be jockeyed by Damian Lane who rode the horse to victory in the Caulfield Cup in October, and also took home the Cox Plate atop Lys Gracieux last week.

Cross Counter is in with a serious chance of going back-to-back after winning the 2018 Cup and if so will add to the prestige of the No.5 barrier, which has more wins than any other since 1925.

Successful more recently have been barriers 10 and 11, providing seven of the last 35 winners, where Sound and Hunting Horn will line up on Tuesday.

Master of Reality drew the No.1 barrier, while Magic Wand could not work a spell to avoid being relegated to the 24th barrier.

The Chosen One has been saddled with unlucky barrier No.18, the only barrier to have never produced a winner since the numbers were introduced nearly a century ago.
