Two meetings to look at on Friday, with Albion Park and Newcastle getting my focus.

The best bets for the respective programs are down below.

Albion Park

Best bet: Race 6 Number 2 Mummys Boy
He looks the one to beat, quite comfortably. He contested the four-year-old Triad Final on Saturday night here and he was far from disgraced in defeat after getting back from a second-row draw. Drawn much better here, he has the gate speed to find the front and from there he can dominate proceedings.

Next-best: Race 1 Number 1 Okanagan
Overall, I’d suggest he has been disappointing this time in, but this is the second run this prep, and second on the bounce, he is back to his own age. Last start he attempted to lead throughout and gave a strong kick.

Just couldn’t quite finish it off and Ignite got the win. That horse had the A1 run in transit. He won’t get that this time around, Okanagan should lead and prove hard to get past.

Value: Race 8 Number 1 Yuko
He is worth more than a speck each way. The Morris camp have sent up a team to Brisbane for the Winter Carnival and they rarely get it wrong when bringing them north. This guy has had no luck with barriers in three runs back from a break in NSW. Now with gate one here, he’ll land in a plum spot and only run well.

Newcastle

Best bet: Race 3 Number 3 Hidden Delight
She is the best on the program and contested a 52-81 race last time out at the track. She showed good gate speed but ended up deep on the pegs and didn’t get the best of luck when seemingly having plenty to offer. Back to a 65 race, she has the gate speed to lead these up and off recent form, she’s clearly the one to beat.

Next-best: Race 9 Number 4 American Flyer
The market will be the proper guide as to this mare and how strong her claims. If you’re banking on the McCarthy camp getting her right and improving her, like they usually do with cast-offs, she’ll win. Or, will she bring her New Zealand form and run up to that, which isn’t good. Trials have been strong through and I just can’t see this camp not improving a horse.

Value: Race 5 Number 5 Jasper Styles
I am hoping for towards double figures to dive in each way. He is flying for the Harding camp and does have the gate speed to cross those inside early. From there, it’s up to Chris Geary to decide whether he holds the front or opts for cover. He drives Newcastle better than most so I’ll leave it in his capable hands, but he has the horse to be a serious contender in the feature.
