Two meetings to look at on Saturday night, with Tabcorp Park Melton and Albion Park getting my attention. My best bets for the respective programs are down below.

Tabcorp Park Melton

Best bet: Race 1 Number 9 Cool Water Paddy
I was keen on him last Saturday night and he was beaten. he seemingly had every chance but he was fresh off a trip from Tassie and perhaps just lacked that hard fitness. Good lead that Alford sticks from last weekend and the depth here compared to last Saturday isn’t as strong. Butter up one last time.

Next-best: Race 9 Number 4 Hopeful Beauty
A very progressive mare that is heading in the right direction and she can continue her winning ways. An outstanding win here two weeks ago, winning by a space and running really good time relative to the meeting. She’s got more upside than most and brilliant change up speed, enough to see her prove too good.

Value: Race 6 Number 8 Pick Up Line
A bit of a throw at the stumps at odds. I’d forgive her run from last Saturday here. She was part of an early speed battle before easing back for cover but the early burn just told late. Has a lovely trailing draw to use this time around, likely three-back on the pegs, and could sneak a place at a decent price.

Albion Park

Best bet: (Place) Race 3 Number 1 Our Balou
Spirit Of St Louis should lead and win, but at $1.2-$1.3, happy to look elsewhere for a bet and Our Balou to run top three looks an absolute lock. Recent efforts without winning have been strong and with the pole, he should be able to hold up early before getting cover behind Spirit Of St Louis. I’m keen on the place bet.

Next-best: Race 6 Number 6 Spankem
If ever King Of Swing is going to get beat in this Queensland prep, it’ll be this race given he is fresh with eyes on bigger prizes. Spankem is all class and can sit parked and still be effective, as we saw when he won here last Saturday. He’ll sit outside King Of Swing and those two should stage an epic battle.

Value: Race 11 Number 8 Red Castleton
Hoping we can get an each-way price about this guy. He resumed over the 2138m here two weeks ago and was good late without threatening after settling a fair way back in the run. He’ll take good improvement from that and over the longer trip of 2647m, he’s in with a massive shout.
