Two meetings to look at on Saturday night, with my attention at Albion Park and Bendigo. Down below is best bets for the respective programs.

Albion Park

Best Bet: Race Two Number 7 Expensive Ego:

Won’t be easy drawn outside the front row, but to counter that, he does have class, is one of the best four year olds in Australasia and is 4/4 at the track. Painless watch if you were on his back two weeks ago, with his class coming to the fore despite a wide gate. He’ll be doing work to win this one, but banking on that Group l quality.

Next Best: Race Seven Number 8 Spirit Of St Louis:

2/2 since arriving from NZ and barring bad luck, he’ll make it 3/3. Won’t be easy given he has drawn inside the second row, but he does look an exciting prospect for Team McCarthy. He was arrogant when winning here two weeks ago, sitting outside the speed throughout and pulling clear with plenty in reserve. Good luck beating him if he gets normal luck in the run.

Value: Race Four Number 12 Humble Ladd:

The market will tell you if this guy is ready to go or not. Former Kiwi that makes his Australian debut for the McCarthy camp and resumes without a public trial hence why the market is your best guide. He brings over from New Zealand some pretty strong form lines, certainly good enough to beat this field. If there is a market push, bet with confidence I’d suggest.

Bendigo

Best Bet: Race Four Number 1 Arden Voyager:

Looks pretty straight forward here. Side with the fastest horse in the race who can run fast time from the front. He can get quite keen in the run, but when he does everything right, he is near impossible to get past in these races. Dominant win at Melton last time out from the front. He’ll adopt similar tactics and prove very hard to get past.

Next Best: Race Two Number 9 Boxofchocolates:

Does look a race in two between this girl and Momentslikethese. Boxofchocolates has always raced near the speed/on speed throughout her eight start career so first up here, it’ll be interesting to see what sort of drive Chris Alford produces. Does he play the waiting game and come with one run or come out foot down and press forward. She has trialled up super leading in and has quality.

Value: Race Five Number 13 Jemsoms Pet:

Looks to be a stack of speed drawn on the front row so want to be on one that will sit back and launch late. This four year old fits that criteria. He wasn’t beaten last week in a similar race to this after getting back in the run, beaten just under seven metres. If he can get a decent drag up into the race, gee I think he’ll be dangerous at odds.
