There are two meetings to look at on Thursday, with Penrith and Redcliffe getting my focus.

Below are the best bets for the respective programs.

Penrith

Best bet: Race 8, Number 5, My Ultimate Ronnie
It should be a sweet watch at a likely short quote. Rickie Alchin trains with leading driver Cameron Hart to steer. This horse debuted here and he was excellent in a race not run to suit him at all. The depth here is non-existent. This horse should find the front and win well.

Next best: Race 7, Number 4, All Night Long
She just has to handle the tricky track that is Penrith to be winning. This horse is a former Kiwi that made her Australian debut at Menangle and she was far from disgraced in defeat in what looked like a strong metro race. Clearly the depth here isn’t as strong and should she find the lead, it is race over.

Value: Race 9, Number 1, Jays Cash
I can make a little case for this guy at a big price. Be forgiving of the run here last week. He attempted to lead throughout but did far too much work on speed and tired late. I would assume they ride him conservatively, so take a sit, and with that run, he can finish top three.

Redcliffe

Best bet: Race 2, Number 2, Slide To Unlock
This horse looks like a talented filly for Grant Dixon and I am confident she can resume a winner. This horse had three career outings in the autumn at this track to start the career and each time she showed good promise without winning. This horse has gate speed, so she leads and will prove very hard to get past.

Next best: Race 1, Number 8, Teachers Pet
The second-row draw is not idea, but she is the lone in-form horse in the race and she does follow out a solid beginner. This horse put together a couple of wins on the bounce before racing last Wednesday when leading and tiring late to run fourth. If she gets luck from the draw, she’s clearly the one to beat.

Value: Race 5, Number 8, Watts Up Letsplay
This is more of a 1×3 play because the way I am reading it, the pole marker leads, the seven follows out and trials, then this guy lands three pegs and I am anticipating it’ll be a peg-dominated affair. Recent form has been mixed but this horse should get a good trailing run, do no work, and can pinch a place.
