There are two meetings to look at on Saturday night, with Menangle and Albion Park getting my focus. Below are the best bets for the respective programs.

Menangle

Best bet: Race 4, Number 9, The Croupier
He’s short in betting but he’ll be far too good for them despite drawing wide. This horse had a dominant win here last Saturday night in fast time. He’ll have to do work in order to get the win here, but he has shown previously he can do that, so he’s the good thing on the program.

Next best: Race 5, Number 16, Tough Monarch
On paper, the 30-metre handicap seems a tough ask. It is an ask, but you have to keep in mind that this isn’t a 2300-metre race. It’s 3009 metres, which will allow him more time to find his best. He’s the best trotter in this race quite comfortably and is proven over a longer trip, so the 3009 metres will be no issue. I am banking on class getting him home.

Value: Race 3, Number 3, Racing Paula
This horse is lightly raced, but is showing good promise and is worth a speck at the odds. This horse’s first run for the stable resulted in a strong win at this track, where she burned the candle at both ends and was too good for them. It is harder here, but this horse potentially can land leaders back and from there be dangerous.

Albion Park

Best bet: Race 6, Number 3, Turn It Up
Short but sweet. He’s one of the better pacers in Queensland at the moment and returned off a let-up with a dominant all-the-way triumph here, burning the clock late after a soft lead. He’ll find the front again and will be better for the last-start run under the belt. It all points to him winning.

Next best: Race 7, Number 2, Herbs Hero
This horse is a smart pacer and I am confident he wins. First up in around a year at Redcliffe last week, he had a dream run in transit before being presented clear air and loomed to win but first up, condition just gave out. This horse is better for that outing. He should find the front and prove hard to get past.

Value: Race 2, Number 8, Jonah Jones
He will need luck from the draw, but if things fall into place, he’ll take beating at odds. This horse was buried back on the pegs last time but was good late. He could potentially land leaders back with the pole marker being fast off the arm. If that is the spot he gets, he’ll only run well.
