There are two meetings to look at on Thursday, with my attention at Redcliffe and Ballarat.

These are my best bets for the respective programs.

Redcliffe

Best bet – Race 1, No. 1: Doolittle Dexter
He’s had a host of chances to get the maiden win out of the way, but I think he’ll get the perfect opportunity here. He ran at Albion Park on Tuesday and just missed when second after getting the box=seat sit. He’s drawn the pole, and I think he’ll lead and prove awfully hard to run down.

Next best bet – Race 3, No. 1: Kurahaupo Gambler
If he can get a cheap time of it in front, he’ll take beating. He was an impressive winner here two back before racing here again. He just went too hard in front, clocking a 58 first half and tiring late when fourth. He’ll lead from the gate, and if he can go a second or two slower in front, he’ll be hard to get past.

Value bet – Race 4, No. 1: Blackjewel
She hasn’t set the world on fire this time in, but I thought her last-start effort at Marburg had merit. She was forced to do it the hard way on speed outside the leader – she only just felt the pinch late. She’s drawn the pole, and I’m hoping she can land the box seat. If that eventuates, she’ll be in with a shout.

Ballarat

Best bet – Race 2, No. 4: No Win No Worries
I’m pretty keen on her here. She flies off the mobile, so I think she can find the front comfortably, which is a great spot to be at this track. She sizzled home when winning three back at Maryborough. Last start at Horsham she was forced to work and battled on strongly when second. She should find the front and a take a power of beating.

Next best bet – Race 8, No. 3: Rocco Americano
It was a big win from him first up at Swan Hill, and I suspect he’ll repeat the dose. He led at a good speed and just kept running, clocking a fast mile rate for what was an ordinary race on paper. He looks like he will go through his grades, and despite a bit more depth here, he should be too good.

Value bet – Race 3, No. 1: Calypso Mistress
I reckon she is worth an each-way ticket, especially if she is able to hold the lead, and with Chris Alford booked to drive, I suspect the tactics will be positive with this girl, who hasn’t set the world on fire in recent times but has drawn well and will likely be leading. She’ll give cheek.
