Two meetings to look at on Wednesday, with my attention at Tabcorp Park Melton and Bathurst.

Tabcorp Park Melton

Best bet: Race 7, Number 8, Australiana
Interesting what Alex Ashwood does from inside the second row, but this filly is clearly the best in the race and with even luck, I think she wins. Led at a good clip last start at Bendigo and was run down late in fast time. Should get a lovely sit off the speed here and is clearly the one to beat.

Next-best: Race 8, Number 1, Iamawingate
Gee he looks so well placed here. Contested a strong 49-64 last time out at Horsham when getting leaders back and battled on really well I thought when third, beaten around 13 metres. Drops big time in class this time around and from the pole, I think he’ll hold the lead and take running down.

Value: Race 3, Number 1, Image Of Courage
On recent form, he’s no chance, but that can be said about all of these and he comes up with the pole, so I think he’s worth an each way speck. Ran fifth at Ballarat last time and didn’t quite get the rub of the green. Should hold a forward spot and I think can run a cheeky race at odds.

Best bet: Race 1, Number 4, Jimmyjoe
Keen to start the meeting off with a good thing and I think this gelding is indeed that. Had the 1/1 sit when resuming here last Wednesday and battled on really well when fourth. Drawn the front row, I think he has the gate speed to find the front and if that is the case, good luck beating him.

Next-best: Race 2, Number 3, Major Bracken
Short but sweet and a multi anchor. Hasn’t raced for a few weeks since a very game effort at Group 1 level at Menangle when beaten around 15 metres. Fifteen metres away in a Group 1, now back to a Wednesday night at Bathurst, you’d think barring bad luck, he’ll make a mess of them.

Value: Race 3, Number 1, Eagle Commander
His form has really tapered off in recent times, but from the pole, I think he’s a great place bet. Lyrical Genius will be Winx-like odds and win easily. I am hoping Eagle Commander can hold up from the pole, then get the sit behind Lyrical Genius, and hopefully hold on for a place. At his best, he’ll comfortably do that. Recent runs have me concerned but the gate is a big tick.
