Opinion
Two meetings to look at on Wednesday, with my attention at Tabcorp Park Melton and Mildura. Down below is best bets for the respective programs.
Best bet: Race 2, Number 3, Cracked Pepper
She gets a great chance to get back into the winners list. Has placed at her past couple, both runs coming at Maryborough. Had the 1/1 sit last time and stuck to the task quite gamely when a close up third. Drawn well, gets a good run once again and should take beating.
Next-best: Race 3, Number 1, Eternal Gold
He looks hard to beat first up for the Butt camp. He didn’t set the world on fire in two runs in his opening prep but they were in races far stronger than this. Ran home in fast time in a recent trial and is bred to be a good one being out of a former top mare from Queensland, Forever Gold. Keen on his chances.
Value: Race 7, Number 1, Bad As Now
I think this four-year-old can give cheek from the front at a price. Attempted to lead throughout at Bendigo last time and battled on really well when a close up third. That run was a strong effort and from the pole, he should be able to hold the lead and in front, give cheek.
Best bet: Race 6, Number 4, Midnight In Memphis
Should just be winning. Former Kiwi who made his Australian debut at Bendigo. Was short odds, was expected to make a mess of his rivals and did so in commanding fashion. Should find the front comfortably here and barring bad luck, it’ll be a pretty painless watch and is a good multi anchor.
Next-best: Race 2, Number 1, Jay Miller
This looks a pretty thin race, so taking a chance with this youngster. He didn’t set the world on fire on debut at Stawell, but he hasn’t looked too bad since in a recent trial here to prepare for a return to the track. Gets Wayne Hill steering and from the pole, should lead and prove hard to run down.
Value: Race 3, Number 1, Headmaster
The recent form of this guy is pretty plain but recently he drew the pole here and ran a close up third. He comes up with that draw for this race and I think is in with a shout despite a plain run last time. Knockout hope if he can land leaders back.
