There are two meetings to look at on Saturday night, with my focus being on Menangle and Melton. Below are the best bets for the respective programs.

Menangle

Best bet: Race 2, Number 5, Muscle Factory
There are a few versions of him but if he brings anywhere near his best, he should be winning. He did a remarkable job to get as close as he did last time out after galloping away. He tends to race best with a sit so that should eventuate from the gate here and he has the class/quality to make a mess of them.

Next best: Race 1, Number 2, Fasika
I am not sure if Junee Cup form has ever translated to proven Menangle form but I am confident that can be the case via this mare, who overcame a second-row draw to bolt up in the Cup last start. This horse has gate speed so she looks like the leader and this isn’t a strong metro race.

Value: Race 5, Number 5, Double Encounter
This is more of a place bet because all things being equal, it should be a procession for King Of Swing. Double Encounter looks to get a really good map provided he comes off the arm with purpose. He can potentially land leaders back here and that is a set-up that sees him race positively. I am hoping that is the case here.

Melton

Best bet: Race 1, Number 5, Sanday
He does look like the best on the program. He has been hit and miss this prep but the last couple of runs have seen him produce outstanding efforts, winning at Group 3 level two back before a dominant all-the-way winner at Shepparton. This horse should hum off the arm, lead and be dominant from the front again.

Next best: Race 5, Number 9, Expensive Ego
He has claims to being the best Australia has to offer. This horse controversially lost the Inter Dominion on protest. This horse freshened up and went to the Ballarat Cup where he seemingly had his chance when fourth to stablemate Spirit Of St Louis. I love the booking of Chris Alford. He’ll take no BS. He’ll drive this horse like he is the best in the race, and he is.

Value: Race 7, Number 8, Ofortuna
She is worth a small 1×3 bet at big odds. This horse was far from disgraced last time out behind Majestuoso at Shepparton when leading and fighting on gamely late to run third. This horse boasts a win over star mare Pink Galahs this prep and the way the map reads, she could land leaders back and be dangerous at a price.
