There are two meetings to look at on Friday, with my focus being on Albion Park and Melton.

Below are the best bets for the respective programs.

Albion Park

Best bet: Race 1, Number 2, Tims A Trooper
He’ll be short but he should be winning. This horse is a quality three-year-old for Grant Dixon that resumes after a very strong juvenile season where he contested some high class races and was far from disgraced for the most part. This horse has had two trials to get ready. He comes here to rock and roll.

Next best: Race 3, Number 2, Tick Of The Clock
He’s flying this time in and I am confident he wins again. This horse drew the pole when racing here last Friday and he was just too sharp from the front, leading throughout and clocking a pretty slick 1.55.9 mile rate. This horse should have little trouble leading again and prove hard to get past.

Value: Race 6, Number 1, Shakatie
I am having a throw at the stumps via this mare. Her recent efforts haven’t been too bad in some tidy races. Her latest effort was last Thursday at Redcliffe behind a handy three-year-old, Misty Creek. She should get a suck run once again from the draw and 1×3 at a price, I could speck her.

Melton

Best bet: Race 5, Number 4, Valley Star
If he brings his NZ form, he just wins. This horse is a former Kiwi that makes his Australian debut for Andy Gath and we know the record the stable has with these trotters from across the ditch. This horse hasn’t raced since July but I would like to think he’s ready to go, and he does find a very winnable race.

Next best: Race 1, Number 10, Whiskey And Rye
The market will tell you if he’s ready to go or not given he hasn’t trialled publicly but he does have a class edge and has the Andy Gath polish. This horse showed promise as a three-year-old and contested some pretty solid races. It is a tricky draw for his kick off, but he’ll be too good for them late.

Value: Race 8, Number 1, Pharisee
He’s worth an each-way ticket in what looks like a competitive trotting race from the mobile. He raced at Yarra Valley last start and was far from disgraced from the stand start when third. He should be able to lob into a lovely spot behind the speed and in a tricky race, he can run well.
