There are two meetings to look at on Monday, with my attention being at Horsham and Canberra. Below are the best bets for the respective programs.

Horsham

Best bet: Race 3, Number 2, Ranger Rick
This horse is a former Kiwi that makes his Australian debut and I am confident it’ll be a winning debut. This horse had three runs in New Zealand and placed each time in promising efforts. His recent trial was solid and he looks to have found a very winnable race.

Next best: Race 9, Number 1, Tex Goes Bang
Punters can end the meeting with a good thing. Kate Hargreaves trains this maiden, who was a pass mark fresh at Ballarat after settling off the speed and being under pressure a fair way out, telling me he needed the run. This horse is better suited here and I am confident he can lead throughout.

Value: Race 6, Number 8, Royal Speech
Better Steam Ahead is drawn the pole and should hold up comfortably from the gate. That should also ensure that Royal Speech lands leaders back and from there, he can be quite dangerous. Most of his recent runs have come at Mount Gambier, so I am not sure how strong that form is, but his best is good enough, and he gets the run of the race.

Canberra

Best bet: Race 1, Number 3, Gold Chester
He has found winning form and I am confident he can hold it. He raced at this track last time out when he found the front after doing work and maintained a margin in a dominant win. This horse should find the front here and prove too good.

Next best: Race 4, Number 4, Modern Attitude
He brings decent Menangle form and that surely is good enough to take care of this. This horse’s last couple of races have been plain but he hasn’t been helped by bad gates. He should find the front here and prove too sharp for them.

Value: Race 2, Number 1, Valiant Charger
This six-year-old is worth a throw at the stumps at odds. He has been plagued by bad gates in recent runs but that all changes here, getting the pole and landing leaders back in what could well be a peg-dominated affair. With the map, he’s a great 1×3 bet.
