Two meetings to look at on Saturday night, with Tabcorp Park Melton and Redcliffe getting my focus. Down below is best bets for the respective programs.

Tabcorp Park Melton

Best bet: Race 2, Number 3, Julius Shadow

This guy just seems to be getting better with racing and it’s hard to get away from him here tonight. He has won two on the bounce and each time he has been impressive. Looks like he’ll get a pretty comfortable lead and in a race lacking any real depth, I think he’s the best on the program.

Next-best: Race 3, Number 1, Hes A Hammer

His manners are hit and miss, but if he does everything right, I think he’s clearly the one to beat in the first Group 1 of the night. Dominant heat win last week when bringing his A-game and producing the goods. The first 200m will be crucial. He could gallop and throw away any chance, or he holds up and class comes to the fore.

Value: Race 10, Number 1, Stormont Star

Very even race to close out the meeting so happy to speck one at odds in the shape of this pacer. Had a suck run on the pegs at Mildura last time out and closed off well enough when fourth, beaten seven metres. He should get a suck run from the pole and 1×3, he’s worth a bet.

Redcliffe

Best bet: Race 9, Number 1, Chamonix

Short but should be winning. If you were with him on Tuesday, sorry for bringing it up. He didn’t begin the best and lost all hope soon after. He has the gate to get the lead, comfortably, and any hint of his best form should see him prove miles too good for this average lot.

Next-best: Race 6, Number 1, Love Your Work

This guy does his best racing when in front so if that can eventuate here, he becomes the one to beat. Forget his run last time out at Marburg when drawing wide and failing to come on. If he can punch up and hold the lead, you’ll see a different horse and a much better horse.

Value: Race 1, Number 1, Ohoka Chopper

This gelding has a good record at the track and from the pole, he should be afforded every chance. He ran here last week and tried hard from behind the leader, but couldn’t quite peg back Deus Ex. That horse draws directly behind him here so Ohoka Chopper should get run of the race and for mine, only runs well.
