Two meetings to look at on Sunday, with Ouyen and Cranbourne getting my focus. Down below are the best bets for the respective programs.

Ouyen

Best bet: Race 3, Number 5, Platinum Prince

Not an easy task to make an Australian debut on a tricky track like this, but if he handles it, he wins. Former Kiwi that now joins Julie Douglas and really liked the way he moved in a recent trial at Bendigo. He looks to have talent and enough class to take care of this average bunch.

Next-best: Race 8, Number 11, Roll With Ron

Outside the second row draw isn’t an easy, but he is a handy colt for Julie Douglas and I do think there is good speed in front to give him his chance to launch late. He did a stack of work at Swan Hill last time and battled on really well when third. If he gets a drag into the race, he’ll take beating.

Value: Race 2, Number 1, Squatter Shannon

His recent form is so-so, but he comes up with a good draw to use gate speed and in front is an ideal position for this track. Had excuses at Broken Hill last time when contacting another sulky. I think he’ll hold the lead here and in front, will take catching.

Cranbourne

Best bet: Race 6, Number 3, Mister Fortunia

At the time of writing, this guy was also down to run at Melton on Saturday. Either way, if he runs here, I think he wins. Good in defeat fresh at Yarra Valley before doing too much work from a tricky gate at Melton last time. He is drawn a good barrier and should lead, proving hard to run down.

Next-best: Race 4, Number 1, Daggy Lamb

I’ll take a chance on this former Kiwi, who makes his Australian debut for the Jack team. Last run in NZ came on February 9 when winning at Oamaru in impressive fashion. Hasn’t had a public trial to get ready, but drawn the pole with gate speed, market will be the main guide, but I think he can make a winning debut down under.

Value: Race 1 Number 4, Ready To Bloom

This guy is worth an each way ticket at odds. Didn’t think he was too bad in defeat at this track last time, working home okay from off the speed to finish third. Hopefully can sit closer in the run from a decent gate and does have the best in the business steering in Chris Alford.
