There are two meetings to look forward to on Thursday, with Redcliffe and Penrith getting my attention.

Down below are the best bets for the respective programs.

Redcliffe

Best bet – Race 4, No. 1: Shadys Delight

This guy races best when on speed, ideally leading, so he gets his chance to showcase that. He hasn’t really had a gate to use early speed in recent times, his last start being a luckless effort at Marburg after getting an inside second row draw. From the front he’ll take beating.

Next-best bet – Race 1, No. 4: Ace Lombo

I’ll take the punt that this guy is ready to go fresh. There’s a bit of guessing involved given he’s first up without a public trial, but the Turpin camp rarely get it wrong with these types, and he does find a very thin race. The market will be the guide, but I think with natural improvement he can take this out.

Value best – Race 2, No. 1: Mustang Dude

It’s been a little while between wins for this gelding, but he looks to get a good result, and the depth isn’t strong. His last three runs have come at Marburg, and he’s been okay without setting the world on fire, but the bigger track helps his cause, and he’ll get run of the race from the pole.

Penrith

Best bet – Race 4, No. 1: Lets Get Rockin

He’s a quality four-year-old second up here, and I think he’ll be winning. He contested a strong race at Menangle first up last Tuesday and was good from off the speed when fourth. There’s an interesting front line here, but I think at worst he’ll be leaders back. Ideally he’ll be in front, and if he’s leading, good luck beating him.

Next-best bet – Race 3, No. 8: Steno

She’ll be short but should be winning. She was far from disgraced at Group l level prior to contesting the Young Oaks, where she looked a moral on paper and duly saluted in a dominant display. She has a second-row draw to contend with, but with normal luck on her side she’ll be too good.

Value best – Race 1, No. 1: Jeffcoate

I think he’s worth a 1×3 bet at odds. He just got a bit too far back in the run when racing here last Thursday, so be forgiving of that effort. He maps to get the sit behind the leader, three back at worst, and if the breaks come his way, I think he’s going well enough to be dangerous at a price.
