As I ride my love and growing knowledge of college football throughout the season, I want to keep up to date with the best of the best. Which teams are contending for a national championship, which teams have the best NFL prospects and who are just downright fun to watch?

This weekly piece is going to encapsulate all of this and more, as I give you a weekly update power rankings style on the best teams in college football.

10. Baylor

They didn’t beat much in Week 1, smashing the small school Albany 69-10. Their defence is slated to be the strength and it looked really solid! I had them as a top-10 team before the season started and despite the massive win it is hard to bump them up due to the level of competition they faced.

9. USC

Some experts aren’t as high on USC, but I trust Caleb Williams’ talent and the addition of WR Jordan Addison is massive. Like Baylor, their opponent was a small school in Rice so the big win isn’t the factor in the ranking, it is the way they looked and their defence which had four interceptions.

8. Notre Dame

Despite the loss to Ohio State (who, spoiler alert, will feature) there were plenty of positives for the fighting Irish. Their defence did a good job limiting C.J Stroud and the Buckeyes explosive offence, holding them to only 21 points. The big issue is the offence with a freshman QB and lack of weapons outside of TE Michael Mayer.

7. Oklahoma

It was a toss of a coin between Oklahoma and the sixth-ranked team, I just need to see it from Dylan Gabriel and the Sooners offence again. They put up 45 points against UTEP, however there were evident growing pains. The defence is what impressed me, registering five sacks and an interception.

6. Clemson

I know DJ Uiagalelei and this Clemson offence disappointed a lot of viewers against Georgia Tech on the national stage, but I think the Tigers have one of the best defences in the country. This is what separated them from the Sooners in the rankings.

Myles Murphy, Brian Bresee and Trenton Simpson all have genuine first-round NFL draft potential and the entire defence was dominant for 60 minutes in the big win.

5. Michigan

They had a comfortable Week 1 victory and despite losing Aiden Hutchinson to the NFL, still looked very good defensively. The concern is, they still don’t know who their best quarterback is. Cade McNamara and JJ McCarthy are sharing snaps and without that certainty, there is no way I can rank them as a playoff team.

4. Texas A&M

There is a genuine buzz around Texas A&M at the moment and I am buying into it. Haynes King at QB is the massive question mark. He is prone to making mistakes and despite having 363 passing yards against Sam Houston State, he also threw two interceptions. If he can limit the mistakes, this team could be really good.

3. Alabama

This may be controversial, considering what they did to Utah State with a 55-0 victory. Yes, Bryce Young looked unbelievable again and no one can convince me Will Anderson Jr isn’t the best defensive player in college football, but they only beat Utah State.

If they can comfortably beat the hyped-up Texas Longhorns, you may see them climb the rankings!

2. Ohio State

Here is the spoiler! The Buckeyes were far from their best and missed their leading WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba for majority of the game, and they still beat the nationally fifth-ranked team by 11. The defence was the Achilles heel for this team last season, but under a new regime, they looked awesome against Notre Dame.

1. Georgia

The National Champions should always be the pre-season No.1 and the Bulldogs did absolutely nothing to change my mind. They blew the doors off No.11 Oregon, beating them 49-3. Despite losing double-digit players to the NFL, their defence was as strong as ever and the offence was flawless through three quarters, scoring seven touchdowns on their first seven drives.
