Foran and DCE are definitely the exception to the rule. Two signings to be announced today will really show where the club is heading. As you say old hard heads would be great

Why it has been a positive few months for Wests Tigers

I think when batting first Watson might open the batting in the first dig and come in a little later in the second. This gives him theoretically at least, the most time to recover from batting to bowl and from bowling to bat. Having so many opening bats allows this flexibility of course. He shouldn’t complain because time and time again he has proven no matter where he bats he isn’t good enough to make the side as a batsman

Warner to open, Watson to move down

George Burgess is eligible for Dally M Rookie of the Year and wins it by the length of South Sydney’s road trip this week. Townsville to Melbourne for those that can’t put two and two together

STEVE TURNER: NRL's super kids mean a Dally M dilemma

Cook is perhaps the worst captain I’ve ever seen for being needlessly defensive. Although that perspective might have a lot to do with him being Pommie captain right now

Difference between winning and not losing

Ryan Harris. Shane Watson. Mitchell Starc. All with injury riddled pasts, who have just bowled 100 overs for 5 wickets. Do you really want them to start all over again to Cook and Root – who could bat a session, score no runs and not be bothered?

As you say the pitch will, probably, get worse don’t know why you would then put yourself in a position where you might have to bat last against Graeme Swann

Why do they keep going on about the follow on?. Surely we wouldn’t consider throwing them straight back in with our brittle bowling attack, would we?

So the problem with the club is that in one off season you lost three front rowers – Payten, Gibbs, Fifita and signed an edge backrower in Blair, then repeated the dose by releasing Ellis and Heighinton replaced by Anasta, Pettybourne and Bodene Thompson. Yet you want to keep the coach?

You’re mad. It was obvious for three seasons that Wests lacked starch through the middle. They didnt earn the right to go sideways and play expansive and they were as soft as butter in the middle in defense. Yet the Sheens orcestrated signings for the past 3 seasons have ripped the heart out of the side. Signing backrowers and centres when a fullback, halfback and front rowers have been needed. Sheens was lucky to last as long as he did and his sacking and Benji’s release will be the best things to happen to this club

How to wreck a team in 18 months

As much as I enjoy a wicket was really looking forward to Warner bowling the last over of the day to Root. Now all I have to look forward to is Warner coming on when Ian Bell is out there so someone can say ‘bowling Warnie’. Watch Bell drop his bat and scurry off the field in fear

Turn it up Johnno. I’d be very comfortable saying he is the best ever. End of discussion. But I think its far more mature to say he’s the best of my lifetime, certainly a hell of a lot more rounded footballer than Alfie. People go on about our halves, but if Smith plays for NSW the last 8 years we’re talking about a NSW streak because he is the difference in the crunch games and moments

Four reasons the Broncos must chase Cameron Smith

So is a double here an omen? Wishful thinking perhaps…

Weight of history against Clarke's team winning 3-2

He is the best footballer in my lifetime. By far. Not as skilled as Joey, not as good a step as Freddy etc etc but he is the best footballer. Worth every penny being offered. But like Cronk and Bellamy Smith is leveraging to get a better deal from Melbourne and won’t be leaving.

The hardest thing is at club level behind that Roosters pack he gets so much time. It’s the same story for South Sydney’s Adam Reynolds.

At Origin level behind a, usually, beaten forward back in the most ferocious, intense and quick football on the planet it is a whole new ball game. I’m not sure Pearce can (he hasn’t yet) make the step up in that arena but that’s not to say Reynolds will either. It should be remembered that Pearce while he’s been around forever and has played a lot of Origin footy is still quite young, so there’s no reason he can’t get better and better as he learns more about his game. 25 year old Johns was very different to 28 year old Johns.

Who would I pick? After Game 3 I think Reynolds deserves a chance but it’s no foregone conclusion. Its pretty comfortable playing with Sam, George, Roy, McQueen and Teo upfront, Sutton outside you and GI out the back.

Was I too hard on Mitchell Pearce?

Rugby League doesn’t need him that’s for sure

Does rugby union need James O'Connor?

A good time to deiver the famous words of Steve Waugh to the boy ‘You’ve just dropped the Ashes son’

What about a creaky bat handle? I’ve had many a teammate protest they didn’t hit the ball but in fact their bat handle creaked.

We know heading into the Third Test if the umpiring can be sorted out we’ll run away with this series. Need a HA! above some of these comments Ronan

I’ve wondered if the movement of the ball just, JUST, past the outside edge could be making the ever so feint marks on HotSpot. Smith’s immediate review means he felt he missed it, surely

Deadset disgrace. It’s easier to swallow if the ump makes a bad decision on the field. Video reviews haven’t improved any sport in my opinion, soccer take note

Cheers Felix. I’ve turned it over now. Clarke-Khawaja partnership kept me interested. If Agar gets to 90 Ill turn it back over

We cant talk about the pitch. We were out for 120 in the first dig.

Our inability to turn 30s, 40s and 50s into big centuries handicaps us. More often than not we lose wickets in clumps too. Painful

Bugger! Was just saying both are looking a lot more comfortable out there. Bloody Root – must be that time of the month…

Nothing will compare to M Waugh at full flight. Ripped stickers off my bat got the textas out and ‘made’ a V100 back in the day

Anyone who has watched would agree he needs to push into gaps against Swann to rotate the strike. Bowlers especially spinners love getting 6 pills at a batsman. He faced a few overs in a row there. Never mind as a left hander he’d be more comfortable up the other end while Pup handles the off spinners. Don’t recall Hughes being front page at Trent Bridge either but whatever floats your boat

UTK struggling to rotate the strike against Swann. Needs to find a shot to pick up one here and there and not let Swann bowl 6 at him all the time. Update on the golf anyone?
