Danger will get a few weeks rest again. He also plays less game time now. Often starts on bench and comes on when others are getting fatigued.

Debating the fate of AFL players in the twilight of their careers

Meanwhile in the states we have mature responses to booing.

“I’d boo myself too with the amount of money I’m making, if I’m playing like that,” Correa said Tuesday night after going 0-for-5 with two strikeouts in a 6-1 loss to the Padres.

“Obviously, [the boos are] acceptable. It’s part of the game, part of sports. Fans want production, and fans want a team that’s going to compete out there and win games. It’s to be expected when you play poorly.”

If comes down to list management. Whether a team had identified a player who may retire in a few years and recruited a player to take up their mantle. And whether that player is ready to do so.

Geelong does a very good job of drafting for needs in a few years instead of only drafting for right now. Players get plenty of time in the system before they have to bear the burden. And also given a chance to force their way in rather than be handed the role.

Too many clubs just ride their champions and then draft their replacement the same year the champion retired. It doesn’t work except for a rare talent. Draftees need time to build up size and get up to afl speed. Learn their roles and how a team plays. Get confidence in their ability before the weight of an entire organisation is thrown on their shoulders.

Debating the fate of AFL players in the twilight of their careers

It’s often overlooked but sometimes teams cat ch other teams at just the right time for them (injuries, form etc). It’s often too simplistic to look at ‘ x beat y’. When and where matter.

Michael Voss has Carlton shaping as a bottom six candidate

Blues should be too 4 and winning at least half those games again fellow top 4 sides. 2 Coleman medalist a brownlow medalist and equal high AA players. Shouldn’t be fighting just to be in the 8. That should be a given. Should be in top 4 fighting for top 2

I don’t know if it’s about views or not. Certainly for some it is but not all. Plenty just jump on a bandwagon. And like I said these days tell someone they can’t do something and the more they will.

TOM MORRIS: Buddy booing is a blight on the game and McRae must send a powerful message to Magpies fans

Sometimes life is simple. It’s sport. People boo. The more media and people make a big deal of it the more wanna be non conformists will do it just to be ‘cool’.

I’d wager it will happen this week again solely because of all the media about it. If not one said nothing about it and just got on with things that actually matter it probably would have been isolated to that one crowd that one night.

The more you tell people you can’t do something, the more people do it.

TOM MORRIS: Buddy booing is a blight on the game and McRae must send a powerful message to Magpies fans

I think Toby enjoys being the heel. It’s a persona. Sometimes when everyone is against you you can turn that into motivation. Crowds boo loudest when he plays best. So play to make them boo the loudest ever.
It’s like when fans were talking smack to Jezza, he kicked a goal and turned back to him with his ear cupped. He thrives on it. If the crowd wants to make you the villain play up to it.

TOM MORRIS: Buddy booing is a blight on the game and McRae must send a powerful message to Magpies fans

Why do people need a reason? Boo the opposition. Why? Because they are the opposition. Buddy just happens to be the last head. He’s past his best but is still the one casuals will know.

Aussies are so precious. Only country that whinges about boos at sport. It’s part and parcel with competition.

This vic agrees with them. It’s not fair.

Six Points: Don't write off Carlton just yet, 2023's dumbest act, and why Dee's ban is an utter disgrace

Not according to the recent interview with his agent.

So how much are you betting losing?

Just on Collingwood being a high scoring team … they have scored the 6th highest total. 160 points behind the leader. Much closer to the middle of the pack than the top.

5 in a row. In the 8 and only a game out of top 2. And another week of no mention. Love it. Keep pumping up Melbourne and other sides. Purring along nicely.

Nope. Hawkins is near league minimum. Just like Selwood was. Lots of old players don’t get paid much. Also a lot of young blokes on first or second contracts.

I think you’ll see him re-sign with the cats. He loves Geelong he just didn’t see a way into the team. But now he has and his agent has said he is happy and enjoying his role.

How about you just work hard and establish a club and culture people want to be at? Geelong was once sleepy Hollow and absolutely no one would agree to be traded there. Now its the opposite.
Not every player wants to be in the footy mad Melbourne. Some rather be able to walk down the street in their off time with some anonymity. Market your side appropriately. Don’t do long torturous rebuilds. Who wants to spend their career in a 5 year rebuild when a lot of players don’t even last that long in the game?

'Who are they going to be?' Time for Freo to figure out what they stand for

Are you playing to win or not lose? A point gives the best chance to win.

AFL Power Rankings Round Seven: Coleman for Curnow, Hell to pay for in the North, debacle in the West

I think a good first step would be allowing clubs to trade players in the final year of contract. This will allow clubs to maximise returns if they know they can’t or won’t re-sign a player. And then get rid of the ridiculous compensation for losing free agents that cost all clubs for one clubs inability to manage their list.

AFL News: Clubs give Tassie green light, Umpires admit error on Murphy call, Tribunal bans trio, Crow hit for six

Ive always been supportive of GWS and GC expansion. I just worry with the way the CBA is and all the power in the players hands that it will again be a long slog until a new team is competitive/self sustainable without further concessions. GWS has proven that a ton of high draft picks only leads to salary cap pain and a revolving door of 1 or 2 year players for further draft picks. GC shows a club has to have the proper facilities from day one. No training in sheds for years. The AFL should have known sub standard facilities a a bane to clubs from Brisbane’s struggle to get their own modern facilities finally built. No surprise the ‘go home’ factor went away and massive upward trajectory since then for Brisbane.
How does the AFL make it so established player will be willing to go to Tassie? And not just malcontents and 1 or 2 years away from retirement players (though those are valuable too, just can’t be the only mature players recruited).

As long as the administration has learned from the large number of mistakes they made when setting up GC and GWS. GC especially was never set up to succeed early.

Just because a players hails from a certain area/state doesn’t mean they’d end up playing there.

So you agree then 5 years is more than enough for a Tassie to thrive or they should be folded?

I have nothing against a Tassie side. I also have nothing against GC or GWS. I just think expectations should be the same. You’ve pointed out plenty reasons they should have an easier time of it so maybe they shouldn’t even get 5 years before people start calling for delicensing, relocation and the myriad BS hurled at GC and GWS.

A point mean’s opposition has to go the length of the field. A goal means a centre bounce with 6/6/6 and not being able to stack players behind the ball.
