Sillin’s spending a lot of time on the back – he looks like the Astana hopeful.

They’re getting nervous now. Lots of looking over the shoulders and nobody’s keen to sit on the front.

The crash victim was Blanco’s David Tanner. We hope it’s not serious.

Just a recap of the lead four: Voeckler, Seeldrayers, Sillin and Herrada. It looks like the games are just about to begin.

5km – The lead’s at 1’18, and it’s a race between four now.

There’s been a fall in the peloton, and it looks like one of the Blanco riders who’s down and in trouble.

The games haven’t started yet for the breakaway riders as they continue to work together – they’ve looked a lot more organised since the breakaway split from eight to four. Funnily enough, though, it was Voeckler who was causing the troubles when the break was larger…

8.5km – 1’18. For the first time in hours, it’s Sky on the front of the peloton now, suggesting Omega-Pharma have given up the chase.

10km – The Voeckler group is still holding onto that 1’15 advantage. If it comes down to a sprint between them, it’s hard to know who to back. Voeckler would be the favourite in a one-on-one sprint, though Astana has the 2:1 advantage.

What was looking like a stage for the sprinters for a while there has now changed complexion completely. Omega-Pharma’s looking a bit tired, and any further chasing they do will seriously hinder their ability to lead out Meersman, which could gift the stage to the likes of Boassen-Hagen.

Thomas Rohregger (RadioShack), who moved off the front of the peloton several kilometres ago, is now being swallowed up again.

15km – With Martin and Chavanel spent, Omega-Pharma seems to be realising they might be out of firepower… The gaps moving up quickly now to 1’25, and it might be a day for the break after all.

It’s further evidence of the pace of the breakaway, which is holding their advantage of 1’10, but taking a lot of firepower out of Omega-Pharma.

Tony Martin’s job’s done as he drops off the peloton, and falls back toward Hushovd and Bouhanni.

The De Gendt group featuring the four dropped riders of the breakaway has now been swallowed up by the peloton, so there’s clear road now between the lead group and the rest.

21km – The gap from the lead group of four to the peloton stands at 1’06. Still no sign of the others who were in the breakaway.

Gianni Meersman is still in the peloton, but a surprising number of riders have been dropped over the last couple of climbs. It’s down to perhaps half size at a guess, with a couple of chase groups trying to work their ways back on to the back.

Sylvain Chavanel has now been dropped by the peloton, after spending the best part of 25km setting the pace on the front.

Since the split in the lead group, the pace has definitely gone up, and they’re holding the peloton at bay at present. It’s unclear where the remnants of the breakaway (De Gendt etc.) are on the road.

27km – With the lead group down to four, Thomas Voeckler’s now doing his part on the front. There are still two Astana riders there, though: Seeldrayers and Sillin, along with Herrada, so it looks like Nieve’s been unable to keep with them up this small uncategorised climb.

Sillin tests Voeckler, and forces him to the front.
