Not sure I agree with the premise that the tackle was OK because he didn’t land on his legs. Preston reacted like he had landed upon his ankle. The game has removed (or trying too) so many tackling actions because of the potential for injury (lifting, shoulder charge, crusher etc) but this one is still “didn’t injure therefore OK”.

NRL Round 4 judiciary: Hip-drop drama as Benji and Bennett wade in, Latrell charged, Morrin in strife

Put the onus on the lead runner to be more spatially aware. It’s easy to say “don’t stop in the line” but the line moves, stops and slides with every pass of the ball. Put simply, the job is not done once you are past the ball. If they are shoulder to shoulder with the defence than you are a target for obstruction should the ball come back into your vicinity. Take the decision out of the bunker’s hands.

That said, the Panthers JWH call was just garbage.

'Every time we do black and white, it doesn't work': Does anyone actually understand the obstruction rule?

I’d say Kevvie will want to keep this Reynolds kid, he might turn out alright. Dropped kicks aside for very wet weather footy that was pretty good quality game especially in the teeth of it in the first half. Agree about the plaudits for Capt Pat but I’ll shout out to Willison off the bench. He’s big, fast, mobile and putting hits on the likes of Neame shows he is growing in confidence. Loved the reaction Oatesy got on his injection and try. It was a good situation to be able to put him in that role and see how he goes. Although, might need to work on the ball playing because when he received the ball in space he tucked it straight under the wing and charged forward like his many years of experience tells him.

I reckon in limiting JTs capacity Payten has also taken their forward leader. I’m a big fan of Cotter but he is the 1% guy. Who is the intimidator? Payten says no one stood up after Tommy’s incredible tackle (should’ve swerved in Cobbo) but I don’t know who the guy is that barks at them and charges forward. It’s fine to be able to attack but elite teams win the middle first.

Oh, what a nightmare: Reynolds' brillance bamboozles back three as Broncos give Cowboys a kicking

Does that come with Ben Hunt though??

'I'm sick of telling people I'm actually OK': Demetriou bats back fears over his job as Murray sits out captain's run

Sry, I misunderstood. I thought you claimed to Gus there was no such occupation.

Fair comment not coming from unfair commentators whining about rules they should know off by heart

I was wondering if I read this right. Judging by the comments I did. Even if we ignore player welfare, CTE and future litigation the game is brutal enough as it is. Accidents do have consequences. Most players are 6ft or bigger, so the defender has about 5ft to grab legally. Mitigating circumstances is for the judiciary to decide.

It's a contact sport, so we shouldn't be penalising tackles and suspending players just because someone gets hurt

*2, the ball has to clear the ruck. Either by way of passing or the hooker taking a few steps out as if to run. Marker hitting a hooker before he has passed is a penalty everyday. Not something you want to give away on play 5.

Was your point that if there is no specific Uni degree called Climate Science than is no such thing as a Climate Scientist?

Why would he be worried? Souths won’t sack him because there is no one to replace him. He has a contract until 2026 so 2.5yrs pay is waiting if they do. I very much doubt Bennett sails back in next year to stab JD in the back. The team just need confidence and belting the Dogs may just kick start that.

In fairness to Gould has he ever been a balanced commentator? His interpretation of any rule is subject to the day, the game and whether he wanted to banter with Ray. Fox was no better last week. It will do your head in wanting consistency in adjudication from the refs let alone someone who thinks he is being paid to entertain.

It is the one team I don’t mind losing too but No… 😊

NRL News: Lomax set to ask for Dragons release, Gus says depleted Broncos 'vulnerable', Katoa inks new deal

If Payten is going to continue to use JT sparingly then I reckon he should start Neame and bring on JT after 20 when it starts to slow down and the opposites also start to rotate. That said, watching Neame last week, I’m not sure he appreciates his size and/or ability just yet. Most young props go through this when they come into grade. So used to being the big kid then in NRL everyone is big but slowly they realise they are still big but get the confidence to show it.

I think the game will be a cracker on Friday. Sailor isn’t Walsh but he brings his own skills. Jensen usually steps up against his old club who wouldn’t start him and Willison to cause havoc when he comes on. All I want to see from Jayden Hunt is solid defence. Run some lines for Mam but essentially get out of the way in attack. I can see 60pts in this game in front of 45k fans.

Good read ROC.
Mentioning Souths, Bazball and Trump in the one piece makes the comments just as entertaining. Although I think a few fans may have the jumped on these philosophies before the term Bazball was coined. Blaming tech and not accepting decisions already sounds familiar. Heck I’ve read few who know what win% they have with certain refs, therefore, the others are bias. You want to throw caution to the wind, start Shaq Mitchell in your team.

Why desperate Rabbitohs need to adopt NRL's version of Bazball - it's a guaranteed win-win situation

A ‘whistleblower’ is a person who exposes or brings to public attention an irregularity or a crime. Who brought it to the publics attention?

Albanese asked to intervene as former Dees doctor drops bombshell over players dodging drug tests

Yeah I know. Not saying it’s wrong and a good piece of writing should get you thinking. I think the Roosters suck!! 😁

How Dom Young and Justin Holbrook have turned the Roosters inside out - and helped Tedesco get back to his best

Wateris in the upper echelon of attacking players but his organisation and positioning still leaves a little to be desired. Adam Elliot walked past him a week ago as did young. Hate to open up old wounds but if Payten keeps Hammer at right center it would be a devastating backline.

Really good story well told. 👍

'Welcome to Wigan, dickhead': Rugby league's a different ball game in the concrete jungle of post-Thatcher Britain

I think this article is a little premature. Putting a score on Souths isn’t the achievement it once was. 3 tries inc an intercept against Brisbane and getting dusted by Manly isn’t a reason to go the early crow. Sure it’s an advantage to have absolute pace on the wing but the pack isn’t at all settled. Just as they get JWH back they lose Collins. Wong seems to have fallen out of favour. All of the backs have defensive issues, even Manu who is hovering around 63% efficiency this season. History says the better defensive teams end up at the pointy end of the table.

That’s right. It is obviously the whistleblower at fault here. AFL are too big and strong for a cover up… 👍

Not sure he spends any time on his soccer thread at all.

Might be a bit nostalgic for the NRL Albo. They want an 80 minute spectacle. The game is too fast these days to ask for 80 minutes from any middle player.

NRL can reduce concussion headache by expanding the number of interchange players - with a retro twist

If the same amount of subs (8) are kept then I don’t think you are hedging your bets much at all. If a team is down by 18pts and choose to throw in an attacking player then they still burn an interchange for a forward. As good as that attacking player may be (who isn’t good enough to be in the top 13 to start with) losing the middle through fatigue won’t help them much at all.

NRL can reduce concussion headache by expanding the number of interchange players - with a retro twist

Yep, agree with this. Not sure why it’s been overlooked with the 100 changes the NRL has made. I really cannot see a downside and it maintains the spectacle of the game.

Unusual? You jumped in to comment on origin talk then back it up by saying it’s a game you have no interest in. Yes, that is quite unusual.

BTW, pretty sure I’ve never jumped in on a convo you were having. Make of that what you will.

You may as well watch the game to boot. See what the rest of Aust is running in to. Never know you might be a little less bitter and twisted.
