Well, an interesting half, to be sure. Spurs started out beautifully, full of vigour and intent, but West Ham weathered the storm. The Hammers grew slowly into the match, and took the lead after a lovely sequence. Kouyate, as well as scoring the goal, has absolutely run the midfield. Bentaleb and Mason, so promising and boyish, are being out-muscled. Spurs seem to be missing that spark in attack, and they’re getting nothing from Erik Lamela, and very little from everyone else. The game, from a Spurs point of view, is crying out for Christian Eriksen. We’ll be back after the oranges.

Winston Reid wins a solid tackle. How Allardyce must enjoy having the Kiwi back, a fine defender that he is. Spurs try to muscle up the right, and Spurs win a free kick. Noble drags back Townsend, and for that he receives the first booking of the match.

Lamela pops up out of the land of anonymity, to play a wayward pass. SPurs’ attack has become badly stagnated. But a free kick awaits Townsend, might this be an opportunity to break through? No, he says, as Townsend sends it to the only pocket of pitch where no Spurs player exists.

My my, Moussa Dembele is a strange player, indeed he is. He surges very encouragingly through the middle, then gives the ball away needlessly. Is he the most apt personification of the the phrase “flattering to deceive”?

The corner is wasted, but the ball is retained. Song tries a sliderule pass, but he needs to adjust his slideruler. Goal kick.

The West Ham midfield is winning the battle in the middle at the moment, with Kouyate, the goalscorer, looking especially imperious. Vertonghen sends a pass out of defence directly to a West Ham player, and the Hammers work it up to Valencia who, by sheer will alone, wins a corner.

A couple of West Ham corners come to nout, and Townsend races away on the counter, and wins a throw. The match has descended into a scrappy little affair, with no tangible wuality on show at the moment. Mason screws a hopeful shot wide, and Pochettino is seen grasping at his face in exasperation.

After a Spurs centre back surges forward out of defence, the ball is worked down the right. Townsend tries a few stepovers, and then send a low cross in, that Demebele flicks to… no one, except Winston Reid.

Much more even now, and momentum swings back and forth. Harry Kane bundles through down the right, but his cross is cut out my Noble. Downing breaks down the right, but is tackled well by Rose. This is totes end2end.

All of West Ham’s prosperity is coming from the left, with Cresswell, Kouyate and Sakho. West Ham win a corner on said flank, and Noble stands over it. The centre backs jog forward. The corner is cleared, and West Ham are pushed back.

Kouyate and Sakho are both down on the ground, holding various body parts. Kouyate’s head appears to be hurt, though he’s no on his feet, and Sakho appears to have taken a knock on the thigh. The Senegalese is still down.

CHANCE Cresswell puts another excellent cross in from the right, and Valencia is very close to touching past Lloris, but the Frenchman is quick enough the palm the ball away. Mason then sends a stinging shot in on the counter, but it flashes wide.

Cresswell celebrates his assist by handballing on the right hand side. The free kick is played further out wide still, and Townsend wins a corner. A great delivery is cleared off the line by Jenkinson, and then the follow up shot from Vertonghen is too high.

After a neat bit of interplay down the left, it’s Cresswell with an inch-perfect cross, right in between the Spurs centre backs. Kouyate is there to nod home from close range. Excellent counter-punch.

Walker races down the right, with Townsend supporting him (that is an immensely quick flank, there). Walker is fouled and Townsend stands over the free kick, around 40 metres out, on the right. He wildly over hits the free kick, straight to Adrian. West Ham counter, but lose the ball.

Lamela stifles an attacking move by overhitting a pass to Harry Kane. Reid sees it out for a goal kick. Lamela has had a poor first touch, and that pass, so far in the match. When will he wake up?
