Jeremy Cameron is really something special. Have to go with him and age is on his side, he still has another decade in him most likely.

Which key forward would you rather: J. Riewoldt, Cameron or Hawkins?

Gray, no contest, is now elite and one of the best players in the comp going by current form of 2014 and 2015.

Who would you rather: Thomas, LeCras or Gray?

Thanks.

Yep, many are also in the same boat, I had to make some major adjustments myself (Didn’t take Ablett all pre season but had an extra 60-70k laying around and 30 minutes before round 1 I bought in Gaz for Pendles… Ouch!).

I have a rather odd strategy leading up to the byes, I will be sure to write something in a couple of weeks regarding the byes.

Supercoach Round 6: Best buys

Spot on. Malice or over zealous? Both need to be taken into account in instances such as these. Malice was present in Hodge, definitely not May. May’s was a genuine football act, he did not leave the ground, raise his elbow or anything of the sort, he’s simply a massive unit. Are we basing his suspension of the action or the result? I’m not refuting that the result is important (Rockliff being concussed), but we should consider the size of the player bumping, as the concussion wasn’t due to malice or intention but due to the natural force of May’s bump.
Surely we encourage hard hits in our game, the bump was good, just unfortunate.

Good article.

Does May's ban signal the end of the hip and shoulder?

I don’t like how Richmond are stuffing around with Morris in a forward pocket playing a defensive role on a defender, because when it comes a time for him to be attacking and make his man accountable, he just doesn’t have the football nous to make it as a forward. He’s a see ball, run at ball, or see man, run straight at man type of player, and this is why he is suited to a back pocket lockdown job. Up forward he’s a liability. I think he has a place in the team, but I think the experiment is over and needs to be played in the backline where he can be far more effective.

Corey Ellis in particular looked very good on debut, hopefully maintains his spot throughout the season. Menadue also looks exciting but will need a little bit of time to develop.

The Richmond Tigers have too many passengers

I conceded this in the article. While it is not a bad idea to give the ball to your most dangerous players/kickers, it is a bad idea to do this on each and every occasion, and fail to put any responsibility on themselves, it becomes a very one sided team where half of the team is doing the heavy lifting and the other half is doing the spotting, so to speak. There are too many players who pass the ball off not only because a designated kicker is in the area, but because they do not want to take the responsibility themselves. Liken it to a basketball situation, if you have one designated three point scorer and are looking to him in 90% of plays to hit the jump shot, then your team is going to get found out very quickly. Houli and Martin in particular should receive the handball as their kicking is pretty good, but they should not be as heavily relied on as they currently are.

The percentage point doesn’t solely imply that they aren’t far off the pace in that regard. What it intends to suggest is that if they do get some crucial wins on the board over the next 5 weeks against tough opposition, they will jump ahead of many other teams with a weaker percentage and get straight into the 5-7 ladder position rather than middling from 8-10th. As we know, for non top 4-5 teams, percentage can be crucial when push comes to shove in the final few rounds of the season when many teams are pushing to edge into the top 8.

And yes I’m with you, a strengthening of those bottom 6 players in Richmond’s 22 is mandatory if they are to become a real force, they have a lot of top end players that were mentioned in the article, they just need to become more even across the board as they start to drop significantly once you get to the bottom 11, in particular the bottom 6.

Thanks for the post!

Shane Savage (St Kilda) and Daniel Pearce (Bulldogs) are NZ-born. Shem-Kalvin Tatapu and Kurt Heatherley are Cat B rookies at Hawthorn. Saints have 3 more as international scholarship holders, Joe Baker-Thomas, Giovanni Mountain-Silbery and Barclay Miller. Those are the ones I know of.

Australian football in New Zealand is not in trouble

IanK, it really depends on where you draw the border, I was simply going off Google.

Australian football in New Zealand is not in trouble

It wasn’t the title I had originally entered when submitting this title, although it probably is similar to my main point that the crowds are not as big an issue that many see it as, and that playing this game over their, despite these ‘low’ crowds, still make St Kilda and Wellington good coin.

Australian football in New Zealand is not in trouble

Hogan is one of the most exciting key forwards for a long time, to have such a significant impact so quickly. Key forwards take a long time to develop and hit their peak, just imagining what he will be like at his best is scary.

Whatcha gonna do brother? The talent of Jesse Hogan

Selwood at the moment. But Jones is severely underrated due to being at Melbourne during some of their worst years. As they rise up the ladder and people pay more attention to them, I think people will finally realise how good Jones actually is.

Which contested captain: Selwood, Watson, Ward or Jones?

Hopefully he’s back and firing again soon. It doesn’t feel right not to have Ablett playing, or dominating for that matter.

Ablett fortnight away from AFL return

Don’t think that sending a big team over will help increasing the crowds regarding New Zealand. The first game had a larger attendance, I doubt because Sydney were involved, but because of the novelty factor.

The AFL Stock Watch: Round 4

Delicious…

A day in the life of Bruce McAvaney

I wouldn’t mind seeing this happen. Makes trade week more interesting. No doubt clubs will fail at it, but that happens with regular draft picks anyway. I suspect that the AFL would bring in a rule, if this was to eventuate, where you cannot trade two years in a row worth of first round picks. Say if someone offered their first picks of 2016 and 2017, that would be denied, as it’s stepping into dangerous territory of trading away too many quality first round picks.

Since You Asked: Trading away your AFL club's future?

Pick 32 alone for Armitage would definitely not suffice. It is said that the Saints rejected Richmond’s offer of pick 12 for him. That and a first the following year would’ve made things more interesting but probably still rejected; Armitage is likely the future captain and far more important as a more experienced player (but not too old) on the Saints’ list.

Since You Asked: Trading away your AFL club's future?

For sure, personally traded Krakouer in last week (got in early) and Tarrant in this week, both would be ideal for all SC teams, looking at some huge price rises.

SuperCoach Round 5: Best buys

If Cripps scores 90 in each of his next 2 matches he gets to just under 430k, and then will slowly eek out about 5-10k a week as a slow burn from then with that 90 average. Not sure how much worth he is to trade in now, you get some big price rises from a couple of good weeks.

What I would suggest, is to anyone with Van Berlo, may want to trade him to Cripps and kind of ‘piggyback’ off Cripps’ next two to three weeks, as NVB has probably just about peaked in value. It’s up to you if you want to take that path.

SuperCoach Round 5: Best buys

Buckley is at 300k I believe, hard to justify picking him at that price.

Cripps is a tough one, mainly misses out because of his price and the fact that he already has a big price rise under his belt. Great pick for those who already have him but is at an awkward price. Perhaps if you have an injured mid premium then he could be a target, but even then I’d recommend just picking up another premium in a straight swap.

SuperCoach Round 5: Best buys

Also looks like there has been some problems with the editing in this one, in Sloane’s paragraph, it says the next closest to Sloane in terms of averaging which is not the case. The “that man is” should be “the next player is”. Hope it didn’t cause any confusion.

SuperCoach Round 4: Best buys

Also is a good option. Has a breakeven of about -20 so has some good price rising to go and should do well in the coming weeks. I expect with the whole thing going down at Carlton he’ll be one of the young boys to get games on the regular.

SuperCoach Round 4: Best buys

It seems the general consensus for those with Wines is to trade him, after all he is estimated to be out for 4-6 weeks. If you have strong rookies on your bench such as Heeney, Vandenberg, Ellis-Yolmen, Cripps and the like then you may be more inclined to hold him and play one of the rookies sitting on your bench as these rookies look to be scoring well this year. However, you should think about the points that you are going to lose over 4-6 weeks being a premium down in the midfield. If you go with a top rookie to take his place for that timeframe and he averages 80 odd, you’re getting 320-480 points (4-6 weeks). If you trade Ollie to a premium in Sloane, Fyfe, Selwood, JPK, Lewis and the like, if they average 115 over that time, you’re going to net 460-690 points which is a pretty significant amount of extra points. Ultimately it depends on if you want to a) sacrifice points and save a trade, in hope Ollie will return and be a top 10 mid come season’s end, or b) use a trade and reap the extra points in the now.

SuperCoach Round 4: Best buys

Fyfe by a country mile in my opinion. His stoppage work is invaluable. Absolute contested king who, when tackled, is strong enough to keep his feet, free his arms and shoot out a handball just when the players think the play will go dead. Takes contested marks like no other midfielder right now and kicks goals on the regular. All round star, and I’d put his kicking down to having to kick and handball quickly out of the stoppage under pressure from contested possessions, as many other big midfielders have lower efficiency than outside type for that reason mostly. Also has more years left in comparison to Pendles.

Who would you rather: Pendlebury, Heppell or Fyfe?

Would pick Callan Ward ahead of Rioli every day of the week.
