53′ – After Ireland turn it over again in the Italian half, Italy boot the ball down the field but only as far as Tommy Bowe who puts it up in the air before winning Ireland a scrum with his challenge in the air. 40′ – Halftime as Ireland enter the break with a four point lead. Ireland look composed when in possession but have coughed it up cheaply too many times and have showed poor discipline within their own half. The Boys in Green should probably be even further ahead after Jonny Sexton hit the post with a late first-half penalty and the Irish forwards misfired from close range, but the same could be said for Italy who wasted a number of chances of their own deep inside the Irish half. The Irish backs have been good when given clean ball but have also been out of sync as a number of balls have been a second or two off. Been a very tight first-half and a much closer contest than most would have expected but if the Italians can turn their pressure into points and continue to be dominant at scrum time, they could have a good shot of pulling off an upset here. HALFTIME SCORE – IRE 10-6 ITA
