Don’t want to cancel it at all. I also never mentioned my “own” fairytale. I don’t have one. Just asking the question if we should rename a simple trophy.

Should we change the name of the Webb Ellis Cup to recognise the competition's most iconic player?

Guess it would be a massive honour to rename the trophy in someone’s name, even if it is the great Lomu. A Jonah Lomu Medal is probably more realistic.

A well argued case.

First captain to win the RWC. I’ll be in honest in that I don’t know tons and tons about rugby history, but surely that is some achievement. I pitched the ideas as suggestions, not saying I give them my full support.

The original title that I submitted, before editing, was a lot less Lomu-focused. More of an open question, on if we should change the name of the trophy.

Should we change the name of the Webb Ellis Cup to recognise the competition's most iconic player?

Well they are definitely more iconic people in football than Jules Rimet, yet arguably the most famous trophy in sport was named after him. The Tolhurst/McLaughlin Trophy would be to acknowledge their influence, rather than anything about how iconic they are. You could also replace Kirk with any other Kiwi, apart from Lomu. He’s in a category of his own, but doesn’t mean there can’t be other ideas.

Should we change the name of the Webb Ellis Cup to recognise the competition's most iconic player?

Probably just me being lazy/ not being able to think of alternatives. Lomu is definitely higher up than Kirk in any iconic scale. I know what you mean about people overusing the word, I hate it so much when the same thing happens with world-class, for me world-class is only the few best players in each position in the world.

Should we change the name of the Webb Ellis Cup to recognise the competition's most iconic player?

Don’t think they’re quite as legendary as Lomu.

Should we change the name of the Webb Ellis Cup to recognise the competition's most iconic player?

Who else? Genuinely interested in who would come to mind.

Correct, best chant I’ve heard in a while.

Okay Tony, of course as a pom I’m going to be biased but here we go. Bazball was not just Stokes declaring or bowling Brook, it was England’s innings and going for the boundaries. For recent years, that is revolutionary for test cricket. Bazball has completely transformed England’s fortunes since Root stepped down. Test cricket is dying, that’s undebatable, and yes, Paul went over the top, not one team can save it, but England are making test cricket exciting again. They should be applauded for that, and there’s nothing wrong with how Australia play, that’s just how they play.

'It might not survive': Bazball is a cult and Poms should be embarrassed about claiming they're Test cricket's saviours

Ahhh Buddy, I was going to do an article just like this before you beat me to it. Nice article, I look at it less as a fairytale and more as a good luck story for a town starved of improvement in any sense. Rapunzel should be safe. For now.

The inconvenient truth in the so-called 'fairytale' of Wrexham FC

Sorry for not replying sooner to you, completely forgot. I was not saying money = quality performance, rather simply agreeing with you that the PL has far more financial might than any other league. Yesterday (Sunday) proved that the Premier League is the most entertaining in the world, Newcastle smashing Spurs 6-1 and West Ham beating relegation rivals Bournemouth 4-0. Not only is the most entertaining, it’s also the most competitive, with basically no mid table, just a European race, and a relegation battle. You say Spanish clubs have dominated the UEL in the past 10 years, but in reality that was one club, Sevilla, and then 1 win from Atletico Madrid. Whilst Spanish clubs might do better than English clubs, England simply has more teams with a chance of doing well internationally.

Why Newcastle's Champions League rise would be the greatest achievement of the year

Just did some research, you’re spot on. A salary cap for leagues 1 and 2 was introduced in August 2020 but withdrawn February 2021. I still expect Wrexham to be in the automatic promotion to play-offs range.

Fair play to him. Begs the ever repeated question, what were you doing at 16?

Aussie Cameron Myers, 16, smashes the four-minute mile

The thing with Wrexham is that of course they have to comply with profit & sustainability rules, but they’re making a lot of money as well as spending it. No in League Two have a reach anywhere near theirs, with a TikTok sponsorship and Disney documentary. That £1.5m salary cap will be an issue though.

My lot Carlisle won back-to-back promotions from National League and League Two back in the early noughties. That was quite a rare feat, I expect Wrexham to be around play-offs, maybe pushing for automatic promotion. We’ll have to see what happens in the summer transfer window, as Garry said.

Ok, I should’ve specified that I was only talking about the Prem. However I do believe the PL is the best league in the world (though not to the level of the NBA or MLB for their sports). As you stated, no other league can boast the financial power of the PL. In the last January transfer window, PL clubs spent £815m, compared to a combined £50m for Serie A and the Bundesliga. Chelsea alone spent more than the other so called ‘top 4’ leagues (Serie A, Bundesliga, La Liga, and Ligue 1) combined. It’s the most watched league in the world, as you also said, but is has more top clubs than any other league. Last year, there was an English club in the UCL final, 2 years ago there were 2. Of course, there are other leagues with quality, but none to the level of the Premier League.

If Villa did get Championships League that would be incredible. Newcastle were terrible in that game, especially the first half.

Sorry mate, I’ve only just seen this, about 6 months later! It must have been fascinating to know Knighton, his character seems fascinating. Have you got any stories about him?

Michael Knighton is not Manchester United's Messiah. Here's why

One thing I have to say is that the fans that were there to witness Murray’s victory were absolutely superb. They kept the noise up all through the night. Makes me think no cut-off time wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world.

Murray right to be annoyed at Aus Open overnighter but cut-off time would create all new problems

Sorry.

The problem is that Zakaria’s injury record is that much better than other Chelsea midfielders, and they probably have bigger problems elsewhere, like at striker.

Denis Zakaria’s enormity is critical to Chelsea
