Wallabies Power Rankings: How every Test contender is shaping up one month into Super Rugby

Rodda put 12kg on his frame between his first and 2nd year of SR. I remember reading an article in the Courier Mail (when Murdoch still had the rights) of him saying he had to bulk up to play. Was eating 2 full roast chooks a day.
His weight grew but guessing the frame wasnt up for it.
Hate to say it Rodda is another sacrificial lamb of potential being pushed beyond the body and is now paying for it.
He is a cautionary tale for the powers that be around developing players in the right way. The days of a 19 year old Eales coming in and dominating are gone.
My concern is we are about to see it again with Jorgo.

I think who he picks for 6 will dictate the No. 8 wasnt rating Valentini early in the season but he has played himself back into form.

Its kind of scary when you think where we were 6 months ago.

You look at the lists its a good one with players who are all looking good.

I think Irish Joe said in the interview this week he was pleasantly surprised to see how far along we were. (paraphrasing badly)

Crap part is locks are one of the hardest to judge as unless they do freakish things like Uru you dont see them for a lot of the game. They are either tackling, trucking it up, the occasional jump at a line out or smashing the opposition off the ball at the breakdown.

All things with the speed of the games happen so quickly.

Choosing those who are leaving? Certainly they shouldn’t be left out in a spirit of vengeance, but there is the danger that it will encourage others to leave, knowing they’ll get a Wallabies season even if it’s known they’re going.

Can see the point but at the moment we pick the players who are going to see us win and win well. If that is Marky Mark and Izzy, so be it. We need bums on seats and eyes on screens for the Bledisloe and TRC and a good turn out against Wales will start that ball rolling.

Great article and really cant argue with any of the selections. Even the rankings are fair.

Main thing I like is at the moment it is a rock/paper/scissors decision between the top three and in some position all five players.

Looking forward to enjoying the next few months of Super Rugby and hopefully some clarity as the cream rises.

Based on what has been suggested in the article, yes I do.
I think we have the luxury of finally having 5 pretty decent fly halves kicking about, 6 if you include HMP from QLD. All of these players have the potential but none scream, pick me.
But with what I have read Tane ticks the most boxes to date.
That is based on 4 rounds of Super Rugby this year. It could change over the next few weeks.
To give some perspective, as a Reds fans the next two weeks for me will make or break our season. The Force are our bogey team and the Brumbies are starting to realise the season has started.
We lose either or both of those and it looks rough, especially the draw. We win and we head OS with a real story, still its early days.

Joe Schmidt's search for a 'cold-hearted bastard' - and the issue he'll lose most sleep over

I am suggesting him as the best we have right now.

I actually think Lynagh is the long term solution but we put him in now, especially with a tri nations followed by a grand slam tour he may be broken for the Lions.

A good off season (Harry Wilson anyone) and we have the number 10 to lead us against the Lions with a servicable 2nd option in Tane.

Harry I think that is what you have been getting at, 3 to 4 players who are interchangeable.

Another season before debut 😁

Joe Schmidt's search for a 'cold-hearted bastard' - and the issue he'll lose most sleep over

He is playing back foot rugby as his forwards are not controlling the breakdown and are still gelling.

The sign of a good fly half is being able to still function and keep a tema in the game with that happening.

He has done that in spades.

Name three things where he completely messed up against the blues and then actually have a look how it happened. Just go two or three phases back, the forwards are the answer.

Great article Harry and a lot of food for thought.

On the fly halves I do agree Lynagh looks to have the goods but I hope he is left at SR level for one more year.

A full pre season and a bit more time to mature.

I think Tane is closer to being ready for the next step and showed good composure behind a back pedalling pack last week

Great article. I actually think the tribalism hasnt been lost through the SR as it stands now. I think you need to look back to the last great expansion. We were foistered with the Southern Kings, an argentinian team and a japaneses team.

Dollars became more important than the tribalism. Throw in the poorly managed introduction of the Australian teams during this expansion and the dilution of player talent that ensued and the general punter switched off.

I think you will see with the competition being allowed to settle and the Aussie teams being competitive against NZ teams and that tribalism will return.

Take the Reds and Chiefs game last week. Two more years of games like that between those two teams with both of them being towards the top of the table and it will become a grudge match, a key to feeding tribalism.

I know next weeks “grudge match” between the Reds and the Brumbies next week is one I am looking forward too. I actually believe it tops the Reds vs Tahs grudge because there has been so many close games between the two over the past few years.

Passionate, visceral, irrational tribalism is vital for any competition to succeed. Is a lack of it damaging Super Rugby?

You lasted that long I got to the author and had to click out of it. Took me another hour of mental preparation to go back and try and read it.

Strong custodians or factional hacks pushing state agendas? The numbers that will decide future of Australian rugby

An agenda laden article on agendas. Love the irony

Strong custodians or factional hacks pushing state agendas? The numbers that will decide future of Australian rugby

I thought he was. Lets remember he spent the whole night back peddling on a forward pack that were not going forward or managing the breakdown. And he was everywhere in defence.

'Philosophical, disappointed but excited': Tahs lose another nail-biter as wasteful Blues hang on to make it 10 straight

The ill-discipline virus has jumped the border and moved south. Tahs felt so much like the Reds of the past few years. So much potential, good passages and then the arm goes up. Rinse and repeat. Such a pity. Tane was immense and they had good cohesion. And then the arm went up.

I am trying to work out where these quotes from Eddie came from. He hasnt done any press conferences. How did all of his claims come to light?

Talk about a great time to cross to him after rebs scored. That was a thing of beauty in you could see he held his composure but was seething.

I wish Belly would of led off the comments on yesterday’s latest chicken little piece. 400 comments, probably 20000 words, adding to RSI. If it started with future Wallaby leader says “go play ping pong if you want” that’s next year. We are focussing on the rugby this year. What a sage, what a message

'If you want to play ping pong': Wallaby's classic reaction to Jorgo exit talk

Wait a 2nd. Havent you just stated RA are being proactive in your article. They are not reacting to agents pushing their clients agendas but have said wait, we have the pieces in place we are giving them time to review and respond.

If we lose players as they can’t show some patience we lose them.

A measured approach.

They are doing the complete opposite to your stated position.

RA reeling and facing a mass exodus of biggest stars - there are three key reasons why they're in peril

LMAO. Here we go again. It is almost like the leaks from the new Deadpool movies. Outside of the fact it is starring Ryan Renolyds and Hugh Jackman we have seen a whole lot of glimpses of what happens with other stars and characters. Read the internet and they are full of great stories and beaten up insider information on what will happen.
Most of that was because of leaks from Reynolds to pump the movie and the whole situation. Am I the only one who has seen an article from a journo talking about a rugby player being courted by the NRL, Roosters especially, years run from 1907 to today, internet based its definitely the past 15 years.
Max, Jordie, its definitely contract negotiation time, you are not the first and wont be the last to have your agents use the media to lift your value. The Roar of the Lions next year should be a big enough hook if you beleive you have the potential to be there, maybe give some time and see what Joe suggests before you jump.

The Tahs are missing a good senior back, maybe he is the answer? If he is about money, go away. If he is about enjoying his rugby and giving back to the game that has given so much bring it on.

QLD have JOC, Tahs would be stupid not to look at him.

But horses and carts lets see how he plays this weekend, I wish I didnt have to work and could get to the game.
