In so many cases I go to a Roarer's profile and find people with amazing, and relevant, experience to be a commentator, or something witty and sharp. Someone called Muglair should have a spectacular profile photo as well. Sadly empty handed which is giving me some insight to my continued failure on internet dating. I think I will ask Honest Max to draft one up.

True but I suggest it won’t be an issue. It might be a bit different if an RA officer promised something, then they might be liable for something personally. But it would also have to be credible.

For example, I am sure somebody will have assured them that there would be significant cash available if a PE deal got up. That was never more than a possibility and became increasingly unlikely as 2023 progressed.

I have never met a director of an insolvent business who accepted responsibility and does not blame everyone else. There is always a legal claim and it rarely comes to anything.

Rebels' Super future hanging on creditors' Friday vote as Rugby Australia set to go against plan

ATO releases and RA returning the license are a precondition to any money being put in. It is a dead duck, PWC should have voted for liquidation.

They need a Western Sydney District, a footprint bigger than the SS footprint (Parramatta, Penrith, Wiseman’s Ferry, Camden) is not served by a club in Penrith.

So what is your point? Completely meaningless. Creditors by value voted against it. Those creditors have to support the proposal for it to proceed. PWC have wimped out by casting their deciding vote in favour. Just did not want to be seen as the bad guy.

Biggest losers are terminated employees who will still be waiting for some money for another couple of months.

The self interest is mind boggling. Right down to PWC casting their vote in favour of the DOCA. They don’t have to answer any awkward questions but know that it is dead in the water. In a less public scenario they would sensibly cast their vote against the DOCA on the basis that the two parties who are required to support the DOCA voted against it.

Widdup is right that Victoria needs a professional team, but that team should just start from scratch without any baggage. Present a decent plan to RA, show them $10m and they should grant you the license.

Widdup’s father could have turned up with $10m six months ago and negotiated settlements with the ATO and Vic govt, subordinated the directors loans and got on with business.

Now he thinks he can buy the directors out of this gigantic hole they have dug for $10m, and provide no guaranteed future anyway. Pure arrogance and Australian rugby needs to eliminate this corporate disease.

Bizarre match report.

Tahs hammered by Hurricanes as finals hopes hang by a thread

In 2021 the trans tasman came straight after the SRAU, highlighting the gulf. NZ actually has similar problems to us, just off a much stronger base, hence the risk we can both slip backwards, especially if the quality of our rugby keeps deteriorating.

The winning you can’t control, and the tribal nature is a given in the SR structure, moreso than the NRC where players could be coming from anywhere just for the short season. FIFO.

What is non-existent is the marketing and any attempt to connect rugby supporters with the professional teams.

The insurmountable problem facing Australian rugby in a doomed rivalry with New Zealand

That is because we clearly have nowhere near the number of 2nd tier ready players as NZ does and we have pathways in a decades old decline. Increasing the number of teams just brings NZ back to our level, somewhere below genuine tier 2. Too big a gap for players then trying to compete internationally.

Everyone keeps quoting how good a domestic competition would be because of the quality and crowd at the 2020 AU final. That competition was a false dawn. The quality of rugby was OK because the teams were playing each other. Post Cheka and the next generation coming through created an optimistic belief that Australian rugby had turned the corner. Until we started playing Kiwi teams again.

It is sheer madness trying to retain players on unaffordable salaries. We have to accept players going overseas and how to retain them in the Wallabies.

The main problem is that overseas clubs will pay more for players who do not make themselves available. Optimum position for Wallabies also requires more time in camp than just international windows.

The easiest way to get to a better position is the investment in development so we have more quality players coming through, which would strengthen RA’s hand in negotiating better mutual outcomes with big overseas clubs.

Another factor is the international economy, the demand for current international stars in the UK is falling away and countries are also more conscious of not clogging up their pathways with foreign players.

Dragging opponents down to your level and beating them with experience? Better off just shrinking back to club football and domestic representative matches a couple of times a year.

Agreed, the same principles of finding a world class team to run a uniform program, similar to the National scheme 1974-94. It is just bizarre that anybody thinks it is clever to perform the same functions six different ways with six different groups of people.

Overseas players have a disadvantage because of the lack of familiarity. It works better when players have had time together with the squad like Cooper/Kerevi in 2021, RWC training camps, the 3rd week of the international window in November. RA does not take this into account with the Giteau Law etc, the overseas player has to be substantially better to justify inclusion.

A massive return on investment. Not finding the money to advance the women much further and faster will go down as one of RA’s biggest failures. The elite women’s football sport in 2016, with international success and relatively well paid.

Absolutely hobbled while soccer, AFL and NRL stroll past, not even breaking a sweat.

From World Cup glory to a financial precipice. Where did the $48 million go?

Yes but wait until I tell my big brother.

On form and consistency the Hurricanes should be easy winners, but there will be good rugby played by both sides. I hope. Error ridden capitulation is not a great way to start the weekend.

Ironic that the three real opportunities for growth are Perth, to a lesser extent, Melbourne, and females.

I am getting there, a bit overwhelmed at the moment. Maybe less time on the Roar?

The insurmountable problem facing Australian rugby in a doomed rivalry with New Zealand

Possibly. The Drua in Lautoka hangover has some staying power. I hope it is going to be a great game. There will probably be some good rugby played by both sides, whatever the result and however lopsided.

I certainly sense a lot more enthusiasm coming out of the west for the NRC, support appeared to flow easily from the Force to Perth. As far as traditions go, I understand what you are saying, but is there really a massive emotional attachment to the WA representative jumper? Plus you have a large ex-pat population.

Of course the whole east of our border paranoia is an advantage unable to be replicated, even by ACT and Reds. The lack of shoulder chips is one of NSW’s problems. Eastern suburbs fatcats as my son calls them. When being uncharitable he includes me.

A real shot? I hope the belief in WA is much stronger because it is important the NRL is deterred and soccer does not easily make up the ground it has lost. How close do you think you are?

From World Cup glory to a financial precipice. Where did the $48 million go?

Don’t forget I partly attribute it to a change in coaches Ken. The new broom should finish the job, Australian teams have left a lot of points on the field over the last eight years.

Centralising back offices would have enormous payoffs in quality and efficiency while significantly cutting costs. Players wanting more money need to go to competitions which generate the revenues to pay for them.

The insurmountable problem facing Australian rugby in a doomed rivalry with New Zealand

It is just lazy administration chasing more revenues. Financial supporters are rugby people and anything that is not a rugby solution will struggle for support.

The NRC is a much needed 3rd tier, something that was required even in the amateur days. The way it has been done to date has been illogical mish mash which has consequently failed to find support. Future NRC teams must be selected from within their own geographic competitions.
