Cale could well be in the backrow with Valetini.
Valetini plays the tight role and it allows Cale to be the wider runner, same role that Wilson does so well, with the added bonus of a lot better lineout.
Not saying right now looking forward.
Five surprises, five disappointments and five things to figure out as Super Rugby 2024 reaches the end game
you missed out on Will Harrison being if test goal kicking standard, he is even better than Lolesio in this regard
Five surprises, five disappointments and five things to figure out as Super Rugby 2024 reaches the end game
not quick enough for NFL nor robust enough
'It's disappointing': Petaia's Super season over - and it could end his Reds career
Petaia is a v good bench option as a utility back
'It's disappointing': Petaia's Super season over - and it could end his Reds career
Both Wright and Kellaway would be starting for me.
That means flexibility is built in with the starters and don’t have to have such utility on the bench unless a 6:2 is being used.

easy when it is a slap down , there is no chance of an intercept
The Wrap: Why SANZAAR must hold Frank Lomani accountable for 'going back for his hat'
foul law though states deliberate infringements are due a penalty.
which I noted above
The Wrap: Why SANZAAR must hold Frank Lomani accountable for 'going back for his hat'
He was head coach of easts in brisbane in 2022, with very little prior coaching experience BTW (he retired from playing in 2020).
The Wrap: Why SANZAAR must hold Frank Lomani accountable for 'going back for his hat'
Mowen as a brumby assistant coach is a good example of this, he has very little coaching experience
The Wrap: Why SANZAAR must hold Frank Lomani accountable for 'going back for his hat'
no, it was more rodda and sam carter in the forwards that made the difference, than Beale.
That said Beale did have a good game, one of better ones.

IMO the knock back is a viable way to contest possession, you knock the ball back and you have stolen it, on a deliberate knock on you have zero chance of gaining possession.
Also a knock on penalty is consistent with foul law 9.7.a
A player must not:
Intentionally infringe any law of the game.
It is also consistent (logically / spirit) with foul law 9.7.b
Intentionally knock, place, push or throw the ball with arm or hand from the playing area

Cec – I for one am not judging Larkham by this year, as an example I stated he improved the brumbies after McKellar left but that was when he had Laurie Fisher and Palmer, and the same quality players.
This year totally different.
Brumbies 'systematically taken apart by the Blues' in 'non-contest' as Larkham's men cop huge reality check
where a discussion of downward pressure comes into it is if they think they may knocked on so what they really are looking at is if the force used is downwards rather than forwards, and only when a hand is reaching out like when a ball has been kicked through.
Beale, Rodda shine on Super Rugby return as Force smash Crusaders to keep finals hopes alive
so there wasn’t actually any law change then
Beale, Rodda shine on Super Rugby return as Force smash Crusaders to keep finals hopes alive
the context IS this year , not past years.
Different assistant coaches, lost players like samu etc.
Last year they beat strong nz sides.

first of it is a law not a rule.
I don’t see in change in scoring a try in the law book.

no, you don’t need downward pressure, you just need to be in contact with the hand/arm when the ball is grounded , there is a grey area if you lose contact before grounding and thus need review to see if it is a knock on / lost forward.
Beale, Rodda shine on Super Rugby return as Force smash Crusaders to keep finals hopes alive
Disagree. Missing a couple of forward passes is nothing.
The other angle on the try showed the arm stayed in contact the whole way , I am comfortable it was a try but I was surprised it wasn’t reviewed.
He was consistent and he was very good.
Most refs are not consistent and make major errors. he didn’t.

the 2 major decisions he made were in crusaders favour, the penalty count was fairly even, force dominated breakdown so no surprise crusaders were penalsied more there, force were penalised for not rolling away or holding on, ref was consistent.
Hardly much evidence to support your accusation crusaders played against 16 men, even if what you claim is true that he was more pedantic at the breakdown (i think he was consistent and fair at the breakdown).

if only, they seem to be slow learners then
Brumbies 'systematically taken apart by the Blues' in 'non-contest' as Larkham's men cop huge reality check
agree, quite a few out and most of them the better players in the team
Brumbies 'systematically taken apart by the Blues' in 'non-contest' as Larkham's men cop huge reality check
IMO the issue is the quality of assistant coaches is way down. Larkham was coach last year and he improved the brumbies compare to McKellar.
They have lost Laurie Fisher and Dan Palmer.
Mowen is new to super rugby as a coach, in fact he is fairly new to coaching , first time in 2021.
Brumbies 'systematically taken apart by the Blues' in 'non-contest' as Larkham's men cop huge reality check
The only positive I saw for the brumbies was their improved defence, they only missed 10% of tackles however it was at the cost of physicality, they were totally dominated in contact
Brumbies 'systematically taken apart by the Blues' in 'non-contest' as Larkham's men cop huge reality check
a playmaker, and more importantly game manager number 10 is not measured by any running stats, so runs, run metres, defenders beaten, clean breaks are meaningless.
You need to look at their passing, their general play kicking, their decision making.
