Ha ha great read – just who is going to wear a suit undertaker style!

When will AFL clipboard-holders realise clothes maketh the coach

Tough run in the IPL? Diddums needed a break? Seriously not a good look with a live series.

The Steve Smith furore is a joke

His role this year amidst all the injuries has been amazing. Great drafting by the Dogs.

Marcus Bontempelli will be the best of his generation

Giovanni the interesting one for the Dogs is the bye – back to back WA assignments without a week off would have been tough. Maybe a glimmer for them?

You heard it here first: Whoever wins the second qualifying final wins the flag

Most improved? Dane Rampe for sure

At last, finals are here - plus more talking points from AFL Round 23

Cheers Dougie and note the class of his post this afternoon.

Roo cull misses opportunity to continue Harvey's legacy as player-coach

Dolphin in shark net very apt.

Yep fair enough – my question is why did they let him play that long (he has had one-year contracts since 2010 I think!)

Simoc – agree that Petrie Dal Santo and Firrito were on their last legs – it will be very interesting to see Scott as a development coach – their cupboard is pretty bare in that under 22 bracket – mainly and ironically as a result of Scott’s top-up strategy. Seriously, and this is for another article – you get rid of Drew Petrie and place your trust in 33 year old Jarrod Waite?

Milo – interested re your comment about Harvey coaching – why not?

But then shouldn’t you turn the debate on its head and look at Brad Scott’s role? Coach since 2009, has not developed the next tier of players, topped up with ageing veterans and then dumped anyone over 32 in one hit?

Compare this to the Swans and Hawks who have regenerated with a fair bit more tact over the last four-five years and it smacks of desperation.

It’s like a lot of media coverage nowadays with the many medians be it politics, sports or current affairs – the need to be constantly seen. The other side of the angle is that you look at the way in which the AFL markets trade week (heck it’s got it’s own sponsor!) means fans are invested and will thus always comment on the proposed ins and outs for their team – whether there is a base or not.

The AFL media has a trade rumour problem

Again – this is a unique opportunity to give someone an on and off field role – it is not about a head coaching position more transition to retirement

John Longmire would be in that category too.

Penster cheers and agree but I have some context – This is not about the head coaching role – very much a unique on and off-field mentoring opportunity – Harvey having what I consider the deserved opportunity to go out on his own terms and develop an off-field pathway.

TWaS – Harvey continues to set a high standard in context of training and match preparation. In context of having a coaching role, he has lived through a significant evolution of football over the last twenty years and has maintained an elite level of playing – I reckon he would be able to offer some young fellas some fairly astute advice.

If they make it – a fifth straight grand final which is an incredible achievement. For mine provided they are in top 4 they are a huge threat.

The champs are exposed, but can anyone finish them off?

And if Collingwood beat Essendon in a GF, a billion people in China don’t care.

What is wrong with our national teams?

Yes can’t argue with that one 🙂

What is wrong with our national teams?

Yeah a bit harsh perhaps – but they were publicly very confident on their capabilities – in context of depth that is arguably the best team we have had go to a Games – and we have finished fourth – again. It is almost like Richmond finishing ninth! I certainly agree we place huge expectations on our teams, but my argument is more centred that when push came to shove, we wilted under the pressure.

What is wrong with our national teams?

Cam – very nervous about the Saturday twilight game as a Swans fan. Richmond are a complete bogey side.

AFL's top two should thank their opponents from last weekend

How Kuridrani has maintained a Brumbies let alone Wallabies jersey this season is astounding.

The Wrap: Bledisloe rout, does Cheika have any answers?

MM – interesting (and certainly ambitious from Essendon). The quality of Friday night games this year has been generally very low. Traditional ‘power-houses’ have not fired and unfortunately it is a case very much of lukewarm indifference to seeing Richmond, Collingwood and Essendon seemingly trotted out with great regularity.

The one thing that appeared a growing success was Thursday night football – how many games are AFL House proposing for 2017?

How Round 1 next year should unfold, plus other fixture proposals

The Herath performance was amazing – for someone that has only really come of age over the last five or six years he is truly the MacGill of Sri Lankan cricket.

His batting has also improved with time.

I’m surprised you got to five talking points – rudderless and abject.
