An 18 year old who loves all sports, namely the likes of AFL, cricket, tennis and NFL. Scott Pendlebury, Adam Gilchrist and Tom Brady are a part of my all-time favourites.

Completely agree. South Africa has changed their mindset on spin on the back of Maharaj’s emergence. Considering the changing of the guard occurring in their fast bowling department, his consistency and potency is a godsend.
New Zealand’s poor treatment of spin bowlers has been their main flaw in Australia
I agree, hence why another problem is them selecting the two spinners in the first place. They were relying very heavily on being able to bowl last and somehow spin through, but that’s hard to do when you chuck two bowlers in and don’t give them the ball until the 30-40th over.
New Zealand’s poor treatment of spin bowlers has been their main flaw in Australia
69 overs over four innings where they’ve averaged over 100 overs per innings? That’s less than 20 overs an innings. Think how much Wagner and Southee bowl per innings (at least 30 overs in most occasions). Then look at how many Lyon bowls when Australia bowl less overs throughout the entire series by a long way. The stats definitely show he didn’t get much of a chance.
In regards to tactics, I would definitely use him early against the likes of Burns, Labuschagne and Smith. Set one fielder out (perhaps on the point boundary if he is dragging down) and then see how willing the bats are to take him on when he bowls fuller. He’s definitely a better bowler than Raval, just needed a lot more chance to attack, rather than always being treated as a last-ditch resort when the Australian top order had already settled and were seeing them like beach balls. I don’t think any spinner would hold their own against the likes of Labuschagne when he’s on 100 already…
New Zealand’s poor treatment of spin bowlers has been their main flaw in Australia
But I have clearly stated the problem isn’t just with Santner. Somerville and Astle, despite their superior FC records, both barely got a bowl at the SCG and were largely ineffective until the back end of the wickets. What’s the point of picking two spinners if you don’t use them until after lunch? Either it’s a poor selection choice to include both of them or it is poor use of spin bowling, as they were never once used as an attacking option.
New Zealand’s poor treatment of spin bowlers has been their main flaw in Australia
The reality is that regardless of Santner’s record, they picked him. Williamson, like all modern captains, would be privy to selection discussions. Therefore, if Santner is picked, why would you then hide him and barely use him? You can’t expect Santner to improve his record or develop as a player if he barely gets a chance to be exposed to tough conditions. It definitely is on New Zealand’s leadership and their tactics regarding spin.

Actually much like your grand daughter I learnt it by myself and my own way, I’m sorry I just took a more tolerant and empathetic path
The Final Quarter reaction – I lost faith in Australia
So just because I saw a different version of events unfolding to you means it’s lazy journalism? Turn it up. It’s this type of rudeness against people who disagree with opinions that caused Goodes so much harm
The Final Quarter reaction – I lost faith in Australia
Just have a scroll through Twitter pages, it’ll horrify you
The Final Quarter reaction – I lost faith in Australia
But the way we treat our Indigenous citizens definitely puts us up there. We’ve had the Stolen Generation! And now we can accept marriage equality (mostly!) but still can’t see how abusing an Indigenous AFL player who challenges racism is horrible and backwards?
The Final Quarter reaction – I lost faith in Australia
As I said in my piece, “Goodes was the only Indigenous player booed because he was the only one confident and courageous enough to challenge Australian society.”
The Final Quarter reaction – I lost faith in Australia
Not as much so if it were continued at the same venue for over 200 years
Why the grand final must always be held at the MCG
It’s already been created, it can only be enriched by keeping it there for another 150 years
Why the grand final must always be held at the MCG
Well maybe because so many of these have been changed (in some ways for the worst like certain rules) many people would rather hang onto some traditions that are famous and loved
Why the grand final must always be held at the MCG
I’m sure if you asked players they would still definitely say the MCG. Hear what debutants playing at the G have to say about it after they play on it for the first time – it’s an amazing place that holds so much value and history. History definitely does mean something, everything isn’t about us and our generation!
Why the grand final must always be held at the MCG
If you read the whole piece that wasn’t the only point made… some pretty shallow reading there
Why the grand final must always be held at the MCG
That’s your opinion – but I definitely wouldn’t see it as a waste of effort 🙂
I don’t think any non-Victorian teams will be breaking away anytime soon, the AFL may stay an Australia product that will never expand and I’m sure many people won’t mind
Why the grand final must always be held at the MCG
Sorry Spanner but it’s not a biased look – just because I think the MCG is a ground with a history of hosting Grand Finals and it should therefore be a continued tradition doesn’t make me biased. I understand the problems it causes non-Victorian teams and that it isn’t fair, but when we have the MCG and no other stadium to rival it in terms of history, capacity and sheer impressiveness I don’t think it can nor should be changed as the hosting venue. Just because I hold a different opinion to you doesn’t mean I hold a bias…
Why the grand final must always be held at the MCG
Play the ball not the player Earl, everyone’s allowed to have opinions
Why the grand final must always be held at the MCG
Don’t think any other stadium can pull 150 years of Grand Final history out from anywhere? Especially not the history of the biggest and most famous football league in Australia? It’s not about whether they could potentially create it, it’s what it already has. Tradition obviously means nothing…
Why the grand final must always be held at the MCG
I understand your hurt, very well expressed and I am around the same age so I can relate to growing up with these players at the forefront. Their actions have been dumb and without respect, and I’m happy to move on from Warner and never see him play international cricket again. An astounding talent but one that can’t represent our country anymore. However I feel that Smith deserves forgiveness, as does Bancroft. Warner was the ringleader, not the others, and although they were apart of terrible act their press conferences and seeing Smith walk through Jo’burg Airport like a criminal is wrong. Forgiveness is important, and I’m looking forward to Smith’s return.
The downfall of Australian cricket from the perspective of a heartbroken teenager
I understand the idea of it being unfair on Adelaide, and other interstate teams for that matter, but it’s ridiculous to suggest this when the MCG, which is historically significant for the game, has also double the capacity then any other possible stadium option. It should be clear that the money and the tradition derived from having the MCG host it far outweighs interstate teams who are humbled by the occasion and simply have a shocker of a day.
Another fake news flag for Victoria unfairly won at the MCG
Watters and Neeld were completely different Gecko, they didn’t come fresh out of having illustrious careers and thrust into the senior coach position with only limited experience as an assistant. And as for Hird, I’m sure if Buckley had been coach while the majority of the list were victim to an injection program that included banned substances then he would have been gone by now. Different circumstances for different coaches, and ultimately differing scenarios.
The minority mindset: Why re-signing Buckley was right
Interesting, I agree with that Chris, Collingwood should have looked around a lot more for a potential coach then they did, as they were too internal with their search. What I mean with the argument is that they had no one who they had met, discussed and had ready to take over if they did move Bucks on. That doesn’t mean that their isn’t any options available, as I believe Sydney assistant Stuart Dew would be a good target for the Pies to have talked to, with his numerous years of experience as an assistant. Buckley is still in the job because of his name and his scenario, but maybe he’ll surprise the footy world and show his worth.
The minority mindset: Why re-signing Buckley was right
A bit of respect would be greatly appreciated. Comments like this create an environment that turns away young people who just want to write and express their opinions. Just because you hold a different opinion doesn’t mean that you should denounce and demoralise someone for expressing their own.
The 12-man squad that Australia should have picked for Sydney
Today’s century takes it to 648 runs @ 92.57 for this Shield season, and 1,211 @ 80.73 for his past two seasons since making the move to Victoria. Cannot disagree that he is mounting an eye-catching case.
Why Nic Maddinson should be given more thought in the Australian opening batsmen discussion
