My argument isn’t criticizing the head contact crackdown at all. I’m not sure if you have just misinterpreted, but I completely support the crackdown. Its about the speed of the game putting fatigued DEFENDERS more at risk of concussion and the need to tackle lower could further increase the risk of defenders getting their heads in the wrong positions making tackles because the game is too fast, but to also not get too carried away with incidents like Burr’s which was just unfortunate and will always happen.
Now I’m just your average couch coach, but in my opinion, the less fatigued the players are, the more likely they will get their tackling technique right, making the game safer for them and better focus on not making contact with opponents heads

The point of the fatigue argument is defenders getting themselves concussed by getting their heads in the wrong place making tackles. The discussion is whether the current speed of the game is causing more fatigue, which is leading to more defenders getting themselves concussed.
At no point did I blame high shots on fatigue. Fatigue is no excuse for careless and reckless high contact such as the Fuimaono, Ese’Ese, Papalii and another example, Hetherington’s high shot on Val Holmes. They were all easy send offs, anyone would agree with that.

I completely understand people’s dislike for Hadlee and the points raised here are valid. But I don’t think Fox Leagues decision to hire him is baffling at all, at least from a business perspective. To my understanding, he still draws huge ratings on radio and he drew the highest ratings for “One on One with Matty Johns” on wednesday nights. That’s why they offered him a contract. A lot of people are still tuning in to listen and watch the guy. It will be interesting to know if his NRL 360 appearance increased the ratings. If it did, than from that business perspective, hiring him was the right move.

Imagine if Mike Tyson was stripped of his world titles and had his accomplishments wiped. It just wouldn’t ever happen. OJ Simpson will forever be in the NFL Hall of Fame. Point is, you can’t erase history and you can’t deny them of the accomplishments they already achieved. However, Hayne should NEVER be considered for the rugby league Hall of Fame or any other honours in future.

I’ve always defended Madge, I still don’t believe he is the problem more so than the roster he has to work with, but to shift your best player from his preferred position at five-eighth to centre where he won’t get much of the ball and will have very little impact is the most perplexing selection decision I’ve seen since, I don’t know, maybe last week. Sydney crowds haven’t shown up for Sydney derbies on a weekly basis since the 80s. The commission is banking on the suburban stadium redevelopments to bring in the crowds which I think will definitely help as it has with Bankwest, but the conference itself isn’t a solution for decades of poor crowd numbers
Why are we so obsessed with crowds in rugby league?
You can’t sell it. The conference system is for Sydney and is only appealing for Sydney. The 3 Queensland clubs play each other twice anyway. Broncos play the Storm twice anyway. Been like that for years. So that is not a sell. Raiders and Knights lose out BIG TIME!
The way forward is a national reserve grade competition. Each NRL fields a club in both grades. The gap between Q-Cup and NSW Cup and the NRL has got too big and both state comps have failed miserably with junior development and preparing young players for NRL.

What people either don’t want to understand, or refuse to accept, is State of Origin hasn’t been “Origin” for a very very long time.
I’ll go through dozens of players who weren’t born in the state they represented.
Qld: Greg Inglis, Sam Thaiday, Billy Moore, Josh Papalii, Mick Crocker, Adrian Lam (ex-Captain), Israel Folau, Petero Civoniceva, Matt Gillett, Tony Carroll, Brad Thorn, Robbie O’Davis, Paul Bowmen, Julian O’Neill, Karmichael Hunt, Jayden Su’A, Felise Kaufusi, Joe Ofahengaue, Christian Welch, Kalyn Ponga.
NSW: Peter Stirling, James Tamou, James McManus, Ben Elias, Timana Tahu, Willie Mason, Ian Roberts, John Hopoate, Chris Johns, Luke Keary, Junior Paulo.
Probably missed a few names. Point is, many of those names are from NZ and I can confidently guess none of them would have any interest in playing for Australia, but they were willing to sacrifice playing for NZ so they could be a part of Origin. “Origin” was seen as a stepping stone to the Australian side but all Origin has done is weaken the international game because so many players have chosen rugby league showpiece and the money, over representing their country of birth. I wont soon forget James Tamou playing his first test for Australia, didn’t sing the anthem and the look in his eyes when standing across from his countrymen doing the haka.
Origin should no longer have anything to do with international football. Taumalolo is just as Queenslander, if not more so then several of the names mentioned. Been there since he was 12, went to school there, played his junior footy there, represented QLD junior rep teams, plays for a QLD club and plans to spend his life in Townsville. Origin isn’t Origin anymore, especially since the Greg Inglis debacle. Change the rules. If you were born in QLD or NSW, lived there and raised since before your 13th birthday and played your junior footy there, you should be eligible for that state, regardless of international affiliation.

2022-23… because after this year they can get rid of some dead weight and they’ll have the cap space to buy some decent players. They have a plethora of quality juniors coming through their system, a successful Q-Cup affiliate side and a coach who’s already made improvements in this team. Only 1 win, but during the games they lost, they’ve shown a bit of fight and been competitive. 6-6 in the second half against Canberra in round 1. 6-6 in the second half against the bunnies last round. Their next goal is showing that effort and fight for a full 80 minutes and they’ll win a few games.

Fair points. He’d need to fine-tune his tackling technique to defend in the middle, but that will come down to training. He hasn’t needed to defend in the middle-third since origin last year. It’ll take time for him to adjust. From an attacking perspective, I still think he’s shown in the past how good he can be at dummy half, spending the first 4 years of his career as a bench hooker. He also scores a lot of tries when he’s at dummy-half, it’s a credit to his vision and decision making. If Mary gives him a month at 9 to find his feet, you’ll see how good he can be, IMO.
