An AFL fan who loves the concept of the Top 100 AFL game players and goal scorers in the AFL and at each club and the annual functions to celebrate these achievements. Also the Top 100 in the Umpiring and Coaching categories.

Spot on Chris M!
I can go back even further, and it is true that most premierships have been won by teams that have a high number of solid core players who have played alongside each other for 5 years or longer. Whilst talent and experience can be traded in, it appears that it takes a number of years for players to really appreciate their teammates and fit in.
AFL top 100: How much does it really matter to the players?
Thanks, okapiman. You are right it will be a big challenge during the year between Clarkson and Mitchell as they clashed during transition at Hawthorn. Look for a big improvement in Mitchell’s win/loss ratio in 2023.
AFL Top 100: The coaching merry go-round
Spot on, Chris M.
I doubt very much that he will make it, and there is no one else close enough.
AFL Top 100: Retirements and delistings
A valid point Rowdy, as it highlights his impressive record of the most national games at a senior level, but considering that that list is headed by four South Australians who all played more games than Brent Harvey, it is difficult to equate the two, so I’ll stick with AFL/VFL achievements.
AFL top 100: The final farewells of the season
No, I think we watched the same game but with different eyes. In the game I watched, the Dockers were still able to hit the front in the final quarter and – to me- Sydney weren’t totally safe until Stephens slotted the last. The Dockers scored three more goals from clearances than the Swans, and it was only the changed game plan that enabled Sydney through heavy work to win
AFL Top 100: Round 18 round up (Part 1)
Yes, Aliir Aliir made it into equal 99th place with Scott Cummings and Adam Heuskes last week, but Miles Bergman would need to play the last six games and then four finals to make it this year.
AFL Top 100: Round 18: Milestones and Memories (Part 2)
Yes, a big achievement as less than one in five AFL players reach that milestone (18.2%), Nathan needs one more good season of form and fitness to break into the Tiger’s elite Top 100 game players.
AFL top 100 Round 17: Milestones and Memories
Yes, Darren Glass(4th) is only 3 games ahead. Glen Jakovich (3rd) is too far ahead (9 games).
AFL top 100 Round 17: Milestones and Memories
Only two teams (Carlton and Brisbane can make the finals, so only their results count. it’s a bit like bacon and eggs for breakfast: The chook is a contributor, the pig is really committed!
AFL top 100 Round 17: Milestones and Memories
Yes, one of the traps of having to prepare articles early!
AFL top 100: Round 16 milestones and memories (Part 2)
Deservedly so. Has been a great servant for the Swans.
AFL top 100: Round 16 milestones and memories (Part 2)
Thanks Chris,
I reckon the composition of the final eight may be a bit clearer by Monday!
AFL Top 100: Round 15- What a Round!
No, it is very much about spreading the goal kickers as far and wide as you can. The clubs with two key forwards (Richmond, Geelong, Carlton, Brisbane) can rely on a fair return of 5 or 6 goals from them but there is a high emphasis on crumbers and players who sneak forward. This year it is not unusual to see goal scorers list of 8+ players.
AFL top 100: Round 13 (Part 3)
yes, spot on again Chris M.
The only two players above Titus and Greig are Lenny Hayes (St Kilda) and Wayne Campbell (Richmond), both on 297 games. Above them on exactly 300 games are 10 players who finished on that mark. With 10 rounds left (and possible finals) there is no one else can quite get there. The two Josh Kennedys and Todd Goldstein are close, but no cigar due to lack of finals or injury.
AFL top 100: Round 13 preview
Thanks The Oracle.
I reckon there is a book in the unfulfilled champions.
AFL top 100: Round 13 (Part 1)
Spot On Chris M!
He has bought his average back up and passed little rover Brian McGowan who played in the 50′ and 60’s.
I should have read your comment before the game!
AFL top 100: Round 12 preview (Part 2)
It appears unlikely that he can make it now. His form has been down this year, and I doubt that he will be offered one more year unless he comes back from injury in top form and the Swan win a final. Pity, because he has been a great champion, and Alister Clarkson admitted he was one player the Hawks shouldn’t have let go
AFL top 100: Danger’s big game?
Your right AD, he appears a long way off. I didn’t have the news when i wrote the article.
AFL top 100: Danger’s big game?
Yes, Chris M,
That was the last Top 100 list to be filled, and all the others are gradually building to reasonable levels. It has taken a decade though! (Just like it did back in the early 20th century).
AFL top 100: Round 10 round-up
OK Doc, AFL/VFL games.
Spot On Chris M, Only 96 players have kicked goals for the Giants. Over at the Suns, it is 114 but 15 of them occupy the “hot seat” on one goal!
Games wise, the “bar” is at 11 for GGCS and 5 for the Giants.
AFL top 100: Round 2, Part 2
Good work, Chris M.
Parker is already Top 100 at the Swans. I think your Coleman trifecta is spot on, but there will be surprises! Rankine is already there as well due to the low “bar” at his young club.
AFL top 100: Who reached milestones in the opening round?
That’s pretty good Aransan, particularly as a lot go back a long way and a number didn’t have long careers
AFL top 100 nicknames: Essendon 19 to 1
Thanks Chris M,
I keep the Top 100 game players and goal scorers for each club as well as the AFL, Coaches and Umpires. I generally try to feature the players who falls off the list as well when it actually happens.
AFL top 100: Bring on season 2022
Gret Research, Chris, and it shows that only three players at the Victorian clubs have made it into the Top 100 game players so far with Clayton Oliver (equal 65th) being the most successful, courtesy over 100 games in a row. Daniel Rioli and Callum Mills have also made it, and will be joined in the relevant Top 100 game lists in 2023 by Weitering, Parish and Gresham early in the season. Keays, Dunley, Scache, Francis and Weideman have all moved on from their original clubs. Kayne Turner is a chance to pick up the one game needed at North Melbourne after being included on the Rookie list.
A new crop of AFL top-100 potential emerges
