Winx will be back on track today at the George Main Stakes as she shoots for a staggering 27th straight victory. Join The Roar for live updates and coverage from 3:10pm (AEST).
The seven-year-old has jumped into a $1.12 favourite for the race which she has won she has won two times in a row at the Randwick Racecourse.
This will be her final hit out in Sydney before she moves to Melbourne to chase yet another Cox Plate crown.
Winx, in a seven-horse race, is going for her 20th Group 1 victory after taking out the Winx Stakes, named in her honour in the last run.
Amazingly, Winx continues to get better with age. During the week, trainer Chris Waller said Winx was looking better than ever under the control of superstar jockey Hugh Bowman. The track has come up a treat as well, sitting as a Good 4 on race morning.
While it appears inconceivable Winx will lose, it’s worth casting the eye over the other contenders for the 1600-metre race around Randwick.
Le Romain, who will run out of a favourable Barrier 2 won the Show County two races ago while the horse also came up just short at the Group 2 Tramway a fortnight ago.
In good form, Le Romain will need to run the race of its life under the control of James McDonald.
While Unforgotten has been scratched from the race before writing of this preview, Ace High and Egg Tart appear to be the other two horses who will be able to challenge for a place.
Ace High came away with a second place at the Chelmsford last start, while Egg Tart had a good run at the Tramway, but ran out of room. She is displaying good form, but prefers the wet weather and a heavy track, so the conditions aren’t going to suit her.
The others in the field are Who Shot TheBarman, It’s Somewhat and potential dark horse Religify, who could cause an upset if Winx has an off day after having some good runs in the last few outings.
