Will the tantalising prospect of Brett Emerton vs Harry Kewell lining up against each other on the A-League’s opening night eventuate? The World Game is reporting that the former Blackburn Rovers midfielder will be called up for Socceroos duty.

TWG reports that Australian boss Holger Osieck will name Emerton in a squad set to face Malaysia in a friendly in Canberra on October 7 before their World Cup Qualifier against Oman in Sydney on October 11.

Harry Kewell will not be named in the squad for the two games, but is likely to be back in Osieck’s plans for upcoming World Cup qualifiers in November.

Kewell’s Melbourne Victory will face Sydney FC at Etihad Stadium on October 8, meaning Emerton may be unable to take his place for the Sydney outfit.

Both Emerton and Kewell started for their respective clubs over the weekend and look to be well advanced in their preparation for the upcoming season, which begins on October 8.
