Australian Ashleigh Barty will look to put her first seed to good use and run through the first round as she takes on Saisai Zheng of China. Join The Roar for live scores and coverage from 10pm (AEST).

Barty has had a wonderful 2019, and after winning the French Open on a surface she couldn’t stand last year just a few weeks ago, she now moves to her favourite surface, and another grand slam which she seemingly has a huge chance of going all the way in.

Of course, such is the nature of WTA tennis in the last couple of years, any of about 50 players could come through with the most prestigious tournament in tennis to their name, but Barty stands out from the crowd.

Her composure, calmness and ability to play an all court game suits the grass down to the ground, and there are very few issues which seem to be standing in her way as she arrives in London.

Following the French Open success, the Aussie moved straight to Birmingham, coming away with another tournament victory to take world No.1, before having to pull out of Eastbourne with injury.

That seems to be the only thing which might hold Barty back, however, she has dealt with what was an elbow problem all her life, and understands how to manage workloads around it when it does flare up.

Zheng, on the other hand, hasn’t won a match since before the French Open when she managed to beat Harmony Tan in Strasbourg, and on the surface, should be outworked quite easily by Barty here, who will be looking to manage her workload and get off court.

Her last three losses have all been in straight sets, including two on grass against Samantha Stosur, and more worryingly, Marketa Vondrousova, who she should have at least been competitive against.

She did have some reasonable results in the early going of the clay court season, and is ranked 43 in the world, but this should reach a fairly predictable conclusion.

Prediction
Barty has the all court game, talent, form and precision to blast past Zheng pretty easily.

Barty in straight sets.
