It does not have the press coverage of a Dally M or a Brownlow but a very prestigious award for Australian racing is being awarded tonight.

As I have written before it seems ridiculous that we have waited for over a couple of months for these awards.

The logical line of improvement here would have the newly formed Racing Australia take over the organisation of these awards and stage them in early August with the right type of exposure that the Australian Horse of the Year awards deserve.

That would probably see a move of the awards north to Sydney, with full live coverage by Sky Racing, and with sponsorship by the likes of Tabcorp. And perhaps a red carpet?

This year’s awards are strangely not being broadcast by the new industry channel Racing.com nor have any sponsorship from any wagering companies.

Controversially for Racing Victoria, Peter Moody, trainer of the favourite for Australian Horse of the Year in Dissident, will not be in attendance tonight.

The form guide for the awards is attached with my selections being Australian Horse of the year Dissident, and Delicacy to win the three year old filly award, denying the NSW horse of the year First Seal.
