Although the ACT Brumbies were formed in 1996, the team was often labelled as a side full of ‘rejects’ that would perform poorly in Super Rugby competition. The Brumbies however are now the most successful Australian side in Super rugby history, having reached five Grand finals with two titles under their belts. However, since the start of the Super Rugby in the 15 team format, the Brumbies have failed to make the finals, and finished second last in the Australian conference in 2011.
