Beijing hopes to wipe away toilet stigma
The two-time 1500m champion produced a strong win in the 400m freestyle this morning in the Australian swim team’s final competition before the Beijing Games.
He won in a time of 3 minutes 46.91 seconds at the grand prix meet at Olympic Park – a respectable time considering he is in the middle of heavy training.
And he said he felt comfortable heading into his third Olympics.
“I feel more confident than I did at the last two Olympic Games because I am healthy and training well,” he said.
“I am being consistent that is a good feeling in myself … but the competition is much tougher this time around.”
Hackett, who is trying to become the first male swimmer to win three straight Olympic titles, said he had been tweaking his program to adjust to the morning finals program in Beijing.
“It is a test to get up and race in the morning but to get up and produce a faster time by two seconds (from last night) is encouraging,” he said.
