Warwick Farm: Randwick Guineas Day review

A super day of racing at Warwick Farm on Saturday, culminated with the brilliant win of It’s A Dundeel in the Guineas.

Below are my additions to the black book from the meeting – the follow file:

R1 Permit – First time up to a suitable staying trip and it was a fantastic effort. Commenced a long run, three wide, from about the 800m and fought on hard right to the line. Ready to peak now and look for him in the upcoming Sydney Cup.

R2 Mahican – Jumped brilliantly but Nolen elected to go back and this was its wrongdoing. Was a mile off them coming to the turn and I thought he found the line well enough to suggest he is going to win some decent races around that mile range.

R3 Limes – Attacked the line very hard late in the piece and I reckon it can be followed in some good races this Autumn over 1400m range. Effort was full of merit considering a lack of speed in the race.

R4 – Greytfilly – Missed the start by a couple of lengths and was forced to sustain a long wide run to get into the race. First run for Waterhouse, so expect plenty of improvement.

R5 – Arinosa – Super win, coming from well back in the field and showing an excellent turn of foot. It proved in the Spring that it can match it with the best and the future looks bright for this horse, who has demonstrated its best over longer trips.

R5 – Cathay Lady – Massive mail for this one on Saturday and it was not disgraced to finish as close it did after a hard run, sitting three wide for the entirety. Another who has excellent credentials over the longer trips and is one that can followed with some confidence.

R6 – Proverb – Away from the obvious horses to follow in It’s A Dundeel and Proisir, I thought the effort of Proverb was outstanding for a horse heading towards the Derby. I especially liked the final 200m of his race. He is well worth something some in the ‘all in’ markets.

R7 – Decision Time – Came into this race off some very impressive trials and he caught the eye flashing home late down the outside. Not sure if he can win against Snitzerland, but it showed that it has come back very well this time in.

R8 Crafty Irna – She is ready to peak now after this run with the big weight. She was dictated too up front by Thy and whilst she loomed up to win, she just ran out of gas late. Regardless, the effort was very encouraging.

Forgive File

R1 Marden – Moderate tempo did not suit and was disappointed for a run coming passing the 200m.

R2 Good Job Bro – Overaced badly and changed stride dramatically when asked for an effort. Post race anaylsis showed he was recovering poorly.

R2 Fuerza – Missed the start and had to be ridden along to gain a midfield position. Momentary blocked in the straight. Ridden upside down.

R3 Knight Exemplar – Caught off the track for the entire run and did drift a long way back as a result. Hit the line ok, considering the bad luck.

R4 Assail – Jumped poorly and had to muster speed to get into the race. Poleaxed when going for a tight run into the straight. Overraced badly, hit the running rail and pulled up with a slight niggle. Total forgive.

R4 – Most Joyful – Raced three wide throughout.

R5 – Miss Stellabelle – Blocked for a run for the majority of the straight, should have finished a lot closer.

R5 – Shannara – Blocked for a clear passage for the majority of the straight, should have finished a lot closer.

R5 – Choice Words – Missed the start and overraced badly in the middle stages of the race. Made heavy contact when balancing up in the straight.

R6 – Sacred Falls – Felt heavy contact and was pushed wide on the course mid race. As a result, it raced three wide for the remainder of the race.

R8 – Ominous Quality – Missed the start and a result, raced a little ungenerously.
