TWO GOOD! Zahra wins back-to-back Melbourne Cups on Without a Fight as three horses pull up lame

The track played a bit iff-ish but overall, it was a pretty good at Hawkesbury on Saturday. Here are my blackbookers for the program.

Backmarkers in race one – 33 and change final 600m meant those from the back had no hope. A horse like Napoleon should be forgiven and given another another chance in a slightly weaker race.
Ruthless Agent – 1100m was short of his best and that was evident early as he flopped out to last. Came widest and worked home strongly. With the run under the belt and up in trip, he can win next start.
Liapari – First up off a 56-day break over a shorter trip, I thought he was very good late. He will be a horse to follow with confidence during the Winter months.
Artistry – Self explanatory with the replay.
Calanda – Same as Artistry. Ouch.
Broadside – He loomed to win the race, but just tired late. Only second up, so he has improvement left. He will be winning races.

(Beyond 1200m) Serena Bay – Hindsight is a wonderful thing. I shouldn’t have gone with her beyond 1200m. Was banking on her class and that wasn’t enough. 1100-1200 sees her out.
(Beyond 1200m) Spright- They’ve tried her out as a 1200-1400m horse, but it just hasn’t worked. She is a very good sprinter, nothing more. Had her chance today.
