There are three meetings set down for Monday, when I think there are a couple of strong winning chances at Wodonga. Here are my five plays for the afternoon.

Bet 1: Each-way – Wellington Race 2, number two: Bel Twista
I reckon this bloke can run a race at odds. Rodney Robb trains this son of Bel Esprit, who ran on a Dubbo bog last time. He was wide with no cover throughout, with the best ground seemingly being nearer to the inside. The form out of that has been decent, he draws better and will be much better suited on firmer footing.

Each-way bet: Tote

Bet 2: Each-way – Queanbeyan Race 4, number three: Old Man’s Angel
He looks good value. He ran over 2000 metres during the Taree Carnival, where he got well back off the pace and tried hard to make ground, but the race was somewhat dominated by those near the speed. This does look a decent drop in depth for this Theresa Bateup runner, and I think the give in the track will suit him.

Win odds: $6.00; place odds: $2.25 (Sportsbet)

Bet 3: Each-way – Queanbeyan Race 6, number seven: Tearful Kitty
I can’t remember the Trevor Sutherland stable going as well as it has at the moment. This mare is a month between runs since racing on her home track at Wagga over 1200 metres, where she just got too far back off the pace, but I liked the way she closed off late. If she is within range on the turn, she’ll take some beating.

Win odds: $7.00; place odds: $2.50 (Sportsbet)

Bet 4: Win – Wodonga Race 1, number seven: Mrs O’Malley
She’s nearly the bet of the day. She’s done plenty wrong and had no luck in both career outings, starting with the Geelong synthetic before going to the Pakenham synthetic, where you could make a case she should have won but had no luck in the straight behind Inglesias. On the turf now and third up she should know what the caper is about by now.

Win odds: $4.50 (Sportsbet)

Bet 5: Win – Wodonga Race 2, number seven: Manasari
I’m Keen on this filly. I was keen on her chances when she debuted at Bendigo and despite sitting wide with no cover on speed she stuck on really well in defeat when third to Trigger Point. With a senior jockey on and drawing much better this time around, the overall depth here is inferior to what she faced on debut.

Win odds: $5.50 (Sportsbet)
